First discovery
What was the moment that you first learned about raw foods?
For me, I met with an herbalist, he first mentioned it and I was like "huh? what's that?" even though it really was obvious. He asked, "do you want to feel better than you ever imagined you could?" Well, who would say no to that question. He said, "eat 100% raw foods." His assistant sufferred from MS and her symptoms were greatly diminished since eating 100% raw. She used to be wheel chair bound and she was walking. That's a pretty amazing testimony. But did I embrace it? Well, yes, actually. But he took me down the path too fast and made me afraid. He told me to go raw and stop all medications immediately. Well, it was too fast and too radical for my system to handle and for me to deal with on my own with no information. I think it might have worked if I had someone with me, explaining and helping me through the detox. It did however open my eyes to the possibility. I researched and learned all I could. It took me 6 years to try it again. It only lasted a month or so but I ate closer to 100% raw every day. I eventually went raw after talking to Alissa. Thanks Alissa for changing my life!

Hi Kristi,
What a great thread, I just found it.
I first found a Christian B.B online and it had a health section and a fasting section and exercise. I'm not a born again Christian but the people on there were lovely and really welcoming and I didn't see the raw section for ages, I just read all about juice fasting. So I did a 7 day juice fast. Then back to normal, don't remember much about it but it must have been good coz I did another, this time for 10 days. The last few days of this one all I could do was think about raw sweetcorn and peppers and pictures of raw brightly coloured glowing veg and fruit came to my mind!! Weird as I really didn't even know raw food was a way of living. So I went to read all about it. I read and read for a few days then broke my fast and went raw. Since then it's just been amazing (that was almost 2 years ago I reckon). I remember realising I was vegan coz I was raw and I was SO happy, I was a vegan who was too lazy/didn't believe in herself enough before - i'm so happy to be vegan and raw. I learned more and more and still am learning more about health, nutrition etc. I stopped all meds for asthma and pcos and allergies, I gained my normal weight and my migraines stopped (I would have 2 lots of 3 days per month). Totally amazing. I've been healing ever since. I've lapsed and binged and most recently overcome/learned to deal with my binge/emotional eating, I did this by adding cooked into my diet again, I let everything be 'allowed' and it was scary but I actually chose healthy - WOW and then went raw again after having cooked veg for a bit.
My latest healing I am having is to heal my ovaries of pcos, I don't have periods and don't think I ovulate, and to heal the insulin resistance that comes with that, and the tired pancreas that came from that.
It's an awesome journey - and to think it all started with a bit of web surfing!

Kristi,
The very first time I discovered raw food was in 1971 when I began to wonder what Adam and Eve ate.

My first time
Hi Everyone,
I read about raw food in of all places, Gourmet Magazine. There was an article about Roxanne Klien and Charlie Trotter. That's my first exposure to raw.
Peace,
M.B.
