Hi guys,
I soaked about 2 cups of almonds overnight Monday and they still aren't doing anything. What is wrong and what should I do with them? I was going to use them to make almond milk?
Thanks in advance.

They don't "sprout" like buckwheat or rye.... they just generally get a little tiny bud on them (sometimes barely noticable). Hope that helps! :D
i'm not sure if i've read that they need to DO something i.e. visibly sprout...
maybe that would prove they're alive, but I think you'd have to soak them, drain the water and let them sit out rinsing several times a day to have them really SPROUT. It would probably take days and they could go bad.
But I think to make the milk, you just have to soak them overnight so the enzyme inhibitors on the skin STOP inhibiting the enzymes, and the nutritional value is boosted. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.
ALSO: from experience I now always add a PINCH of salt to the milk. This is SO key to getting a good milk methinks.
Thanks Justine. Sorry to be so abrupt. I am hungry and just beginning this. I keep getting interrupted and it has slowed me down in planning what I'm going to eat. I think that maybe I made a mistake by ordering Shazzie's books and DVDs as well as Jennifer Cornbleet's book and Alissa's book and DVDs too. I am feeling a bit overwhelmed and don't know where to start and I am so hungry and determined not to grab something I shouldn't! I also am trying to limit my fruit to the mornings. I find it easier on my digestion. I am not a good cook - always have to use recipes - so I've been trying to figure out what I'm having for supper. Already made husband's supper. I think I'll have Alissa's marinara sauce over zucchini. My saladacca arrived just this minute (spiral slicer). I also have sprouting (I hope) alfalfa, mung beans, and lentils. I hope I'm doing it properly. I would have thought they should have been spread out more ( like a thin layer of seeds?) I guess this takes practice and I haven't had any time to read from this forum today or yesterday. Life is just too busy. The almonds still taste okay and they do seem a bit plumper and maybe they have a sort of a bud on the end - not sure. But should it take this long? Since Monday night? And what do I do with them now? Thanks Justine. Sorry I am so long-winded today.
NO WORRIES! I usually just soak overnight for milk... they get plumper and they are easier to blend. It also does make them easier to digest per the previous post. Keep it as simple as you can. It's funny, I have a book case FULL of raw books and I always seem to come back to ALissa's. She RAWKS. Wish you could come over and I could show you some stuff but for now we'll have to work with what we've got, yes? ;)
You can put the drained almonds in the fridge and they should last about a week. No worries though ~K? :D Your other's should sprout in about 24 hours and will be noticable. Good luck....
funny, mine didn't sprout eaither. Seems like the pasteurization monster has arrived on the almond planet.
