You know how your metabolic rate slows down drastically when you cut calories way down (like in the case of Anorexia, or the CR diet)?
Are those changes permanent, or are they just temporary effects of the amount you're eating at the time?

You can up your Matabolism with EXERCISE......And Calorie burning Food.
I think it's temporary. As you decrease calories it slows down, but if you increase calories it'll speed up. That only works for an extent. You don't want to eat too many calories either. Exercise too. Small tiny meals every few hours too.
It is very difficult to change your metabolism. As stated above Met is effected more by exercise and inc and dec in calories. Your basal Met did not change much when you reduced calories it is the external drop in calories that changed. We adapt quickly to inc and dec in cals. The best way to change the base Met is to increase muscle mass. And that is minimal too but does help. Each pound of muscle you add will increase MET by about 50 cals A DAY  (varies person to person) so it is not a huge impact.
A change in temperature probably helps as well. If it's cold your body needs to work harder to stay warm. :)
Thanks for the replies! That really helped :)
I second increasing your muscle mass! Metabolism is connected with it. It definitely worked for me. I took a jogging class at school and I built so much muscle and my metabolism was so fast! It was crazy! haha I wasnt used to that!
that could be true. i heard that your body burns more energy trying to warm itself up but i dont know if thats right either.
