I suppose the definition of guidance could be debated. I've heard many times that people have trouble knowing what's right and what's wrong eating truly raw after attending raw events and reading information from various experts on the raw diet. Geez, I can't imagine why people have a hard time figuring it out???
"Use your common sense" would be my advice and avoid the controversy surrounding juicers/dehydrators/food on whether they are "truly raw".

Hmm I am still trying to figure out how AJ got defensive here. :) I to have noticed from my limited research how sometimes folks can get really picky on certain subjects. Even though personal experience has some merits so does scientific research which some folks want to ignore. I believe some "raw experts" make it way to hard for folks to figure out how to eat healthy. :rolleyes:
Wow! I have to agree with AJ here on this one. I can see that CC is just sharing knowledge and putting the info out there us and that is mucho appreciated!...but at the same token, I honestly don't see that AJ got defensive in the least but was just stating her particular point of view on the matter.
And it's true, there are SO many "do's and don'ts" and a LOAD of conflicting information out there about the raw diet that can and oftentimes does make it confusing and frustrating for those of us just starting out. So, we have to do what we can until we arrive at a certain point in this all.
Organic or inorganic produce...well of course we all know organic is best, but if one can't get organic, do they buy what they can get or do they just say "screw it" and go back to eating the SAD?
Which is best? Fresh juice that may be slightly "cooked" from a juicer or cooked-to-death commercial juice in a bottle/can from the store?
If we really want to get technical here, we could say that nature didn't intend for us to juice our fruits and veggies, but to just eat them and then we'd all be wrong...centrifigal and masticating juicers! Just eat the apple and chew it well and let the teeth do the masticating! (Well Kirk, for you we'll make an exception! :p )

Curtis, perhaps I came off differently than I intended. Maybe "defensive" was not the right word. If so, I apologise to anyone who thinks so... I was responding to this statement which was in reference to my statements about juicers and being Raw:

I was not/am not being negative. I am being informative and answering the question Kristi asked. It hurts my feelings when I share what I have worked so hard to learn and the sharing is viewed as "negative" or "picky" or "extreme" or as being a "Purist".
As far as being "picky" is concerned, I think that is not really the point...being "accurate" is what I strive for, and what encourage others to be. I mean, what is the reason we are all Raw or striving to be Raw? Isn't it mainly the health benefits? It would stand to reason then, that we would do our best to be truly "Raw" in our lifestyle and diet... If someone is going to include something in a "Raw" diet that is cooked, that is thier choice. I know that many of my clients had *no* idea that things labeled "raw" like Nama Shoyu are in fact cooked and "Live" for example. Is that "picky" ? No, it is accurate.
As far as science goes, what I do and say is based on a blending of scientific research, intuition and logic. (Most scientists say the "enzyme" theory is B.S. by the way, so if we blindly believed Science and Science alone would any of us be Raw?) Like AJ, I think using common sense (and educating oneself and listening to others/experts who have done the work for us) is the way to go. The facts are that many juicers and Blenders heat and "cook" the foods to above 105. Period! :o
I worked at Optimum Health Institiute. They are considered to be one of the Worlds foremost authorities on Raw and Living Foods for clenasing and Health. I trust their research and my own, and do not limit myself to just one way of thinking. I draw from many sources, as I encourage everyone to do.
(I am not angry...I am Passionate and simply clarifying my point of view. I love this board, the people who post and the exchanges and sharing here. ;) I think I just need a hug. Perhaps the 90+ hours I have been working per week with the terminally ill has made me weepy and sensitive )

Are all Nama Shoya products "un-raw"? I hadn't heard that before and since I have seen Alissa using them I guess I just assumed that they were raw? Does tht mean that Braggs is also not raw? Once again, i'm confused?
Braggs, Nama Shoyu, Authentic Kombucha, Nutritional Yeast and Unpasteurized Miso are all cooked "live" foods. I have a thread on here somewhere about that...
