Hi, I am new to this forum. My name is Melissa, My little guy will be 20 months old tomorrow. He has been eating green smoothies and green juice (we call it Jungle Juice) since he was 5 months old. He can not get enough bananas, strawberries, blueberries. Raw oatmeal, flax crackers, oatmeal raisin cookies. He has a blog that is part of my web site, we track his growth, weight and what he is consuming each day. I have had a lot of positive feed back on his blog, and I think it might be helpful for you to see what other "raw babies" are eating each day. (Just a thought for you.)

I like this forum because it has a spot for raising raw children, it is something I like, being a raw nutrition consultant, talking with other parents about raw foods and our little ones.

I believe that a high raw diet can be very beneficial. However, with young children I believe it is wise to allow them to make choices in what they eat. Eating is not only about fulfilling the physical needs. Eating is also about fulfilling emotional needs. I speak as a child who was raised on a very strict diet, not given choice in what I ate because of my parent's "health philosophy". When anything become the "forbidden fruit" it creates its opposite - a very strong attraction to it. Because I was raised with the attitude of certain types of food being the "forbidden fruit" my siblings and I would gorge on those things when parents were not around. And to this day we have an "addiction" to them that is entirely emotional and based on feelings of deprivation (in my opinion). I have talked with many other parents who have taken this approach and the results are always the same...it's human nature.
It is my opinion that parents will see healthier and happier results as we offer healthy choices of what should be eaten, and allow our children to experience the results of those choices while helping them to understand the results based on educational, fun, light discussions. Some children may need a portion of cooked foods in their diets (whether the need is physical or emotional let's not judge)...so let's help them make the wise decision in eating the healthier cooked foods. Through time and experience they will begin to choose those foods that help them feel best.
