3112 just means some variety of papaya. The digit that identifies whether a produce is organic is not the first digit, but the myriads' digit. This number doesn't have a myriads' digit so it doesn't say anything about how it's grown. If a PLU were 9265, that doesn't mean it's organic, but if it's 92653, it does.
Conventional produce start with 3's and 4's, and are 4-digit numbers. They started using 3's, when they ran out of 4's.
It is the ones starting with 8's that indicate GMO produce.
yea dont know i work at trader joes i know if it begins with 9's its organic
Yep like Sharon said.
I read though that most papayas are genetically modified or something like that, and there isn't a law requiring them to be labeled. Does anyone know the facts on this?
Well, I ate it this morning. It was huge, and so good. It was a caribbean papaya. I heard that most hawaiian papayas are GM.
