Durian Heaven!!

For the past month, the asian market by my house hasn't had any Durian, so I tried to content myself with mangos and young coconuts...until today when I hopefully gazed into their freezer and was pleasantly met by a case full of glorious spiky friends!!!! I nabbed two of them :D
I paid 1.29 a pound for the Durian, and I was wondering if that is really cheap? I've heard of some people paying like $25 for one and I usually get a decent sized one for $7...I wish I could spread the durian love all around to those people :cool:

I can't find Durians anywhere where I live. :( I would love to taste one because I've heard so much about them. Oh well, maybe one day... (I did manage to buy some Mangosteens and some Rambutans yesterday which is not so common here, so I suppose I shouldn't complain.)

I would love to try a durian! What does it taste like? I haven't found them anywhere though! Does anyone know of anywhere in Litchfield County Connecticut???

Some people love it, others can't stand it! I think it tastes like vanilla custard (or those chemical-laden "snack pak" things) but my mom says it tastes like sweet onions..I don't know, but I prefer my own taste for it ;)
It's definitely worth a try if you ever get the opportunity!

I think my husband the last one that he bought me at the Vietnamese was $9.00 or something like that.

He just cuts it open and freezes the rest and we can just take out a piece at a time.

Maybe we will run into each other some day at the Vietnamese market.

I am nearly out of coconuts, it has been so hot the past few days that I have been opening a coconut a day. I had a massive headache today, I thought it was because of the extreme heat and sun and I was also over tired.

I am glad there are other people out there who love Durians as much as I do. Even before I was raw, I loved Durians. I never knew people thought they smelled funny.

In Vietnam we have Durian flavored or Durian ice cream and cookies also. I am not sure which, but I loved it there.

I get mine at the international market for a dollar a pound- but then they are realy inexpensive there. Then I weighed it and it was like 5 pounds!!! But I usualy get 5 pods, so a pound a pod, a dollar a pod....... MMMMMMM they are so yummmy!!

I LOVE durian, they are out of this world. Everytime I smell them in my fridge, I'm tempted. I have to be very careful not to overeat on them...
