I have never heard anything adverse about this, save for the possibility of pesticide intake.
Elaine Bruce (UK Living Foods Centre - trained under Ann Wigmore) says one should go ahead and juice watermelon rind because it is the area of the melon where the minerals (even zinc) and many of the enzymes are concentrated (apparently, the most enzyme-rich melon is the cantaloupe).
J.
I just tossed out half a watermelon rind last night.
Maybe I'll dig it out, wash it, and try juicing it. It's organic, so pesticide shouldnt' be an issue.
Thanks for this post.. I just learned something important!
I juice watermelon rind with apple.
I just wash my watermelon and put the entire thing through the juicer, seeds, rind and all! We all drink what we can right after juicing, and what we can't, I fill up to the top of a container and seal it for the next day. Leaving no air gap at the top keeps the juice fresher. No adverse effects here!
I just planted 6 watermelon plants a few weeks ago and I can't wait to juice them fresh from my garden!
I juice mine sometimes and sometimes I eat it. I love it and it packed full of good nutrition. My family taught me the old wise tell that it would give you a belly ache, but I have never found this to be true when you eat/drink watermelon on a empty stomach.
I've also eaten watermelon rind pickled and it's delicious that way too. (of course cooked though, so I don't recommend it) There was a time when people didn't waste much of anything, so the rind would be considered edible!
It's quite mild and tasty if you juice the rind with a little bit of the pink fruit from the melon. Mmm it's a very complete and nourishing drink.
It tastes great and the juice is still very sweet if you juice the fruit and the rind.
Could somebody clarify this for me... do you mean the WHOLE rind? The green part and all, or just the white part?
When I juiced watermelons and and honeydew and cantaloupe i just cut them and put the whole thing in the juicer it's very yummy!
You can juice the whole watermelon. I'm going to juice mine this morning. I got a nice big organic one!
I have been adding the rind (green and white) to my smoothie (just blended, not juiced) and to my juice (fiber removed). It is wonderful with some lemon as well.
