I have a vitamix which is incase someone didn't know a blender on steriods. If I want juice I know I put the whole fruit in with water or ice and magically there is juice.
I have heard a lot of people talking about having juicers and blenders. I do not quite understand what a juicer does compared to the vitamix andif both are necessary.
Any helpful advice most appreciated.

Depends on what you want to do. A juicer separates the juice from the pulp. The VM doesn't. Adding water or ice does not make juice. It makes a smoothie as the pulp is still there.
Personally, I don't juice any more other than oj and I have a separate juicer (Citri-Star) for that. Mostly, I use my VM for making smoothies.

hi lil brat , ive got both and because the juicer is a pain to clean and takes longer i just use blender with water like you do (it works real good for greens) then ive got several differing in fineness strainers that i use to strain the pulp out . i start with the most pourous strainer then go to the finest . this method , with my cheap krups juicer anyway , gets more of the pulp juiced so my produce goes farther . my current favorite juice is wheat grass and dandelion made with mentioned blender method , dark green cell fuel loaded with sun . :) ' RAWk on '

I have both the VM and a Green Star juicer (and a separate citrus juicer). I use the juicer for when I want plain juice, and for homoginizing ingredients for burgers and such. I use the VM for smoothies -- blended drinks -- making sauces and such.
I will say, I use the VM most, but I really like carrot juice, so my juicer does get used frequently. It can also do wheatgrass if you are interested in adding that to your diet. The Green Star cleans up easy -- just take it apart right after juicing, rinse the parts and let them dry. Many times I just plop the parts in the dishwasher and they come out perfectly clean every time.
In reading here I have to admit I do not know what wheat grass is. I have seen it in the store but that is the extent of my knowledge.
