Hi all --
I am still excited over my new toy and wanted to ask some "dehydrator questions.."
1) my spicy fries were a little soggy, and my sweet potato chips were chewy. What gives? I didnt put oil on the chips, maybe is that why they look dry and wrinkly? Spicy fries I think I need more seasoning and will eat them fresh from the marinating next time...
2) is it okay if I premake my pate's for burgers a day early? I just made the carrot burgers ( sub walnuts for pecans), but I wanted to put my crackers in the magic box first. Is it ok to leave the burger pate' in a closed tupperware in the fridge? I could put it all in there, but Im ... scared... that stuff will shrivel up and not be tasty?
3) IF I put said burgers into the magic box, how long should I keep them in if I put them in before bed? How can I lower the temp so I have 7ish hours before I need to flip? So, if I put the flax crackers in at 7pm on 105, and then lower it to 85 before bed, will they be 'flippable' by 7am, or overdone?
I should have made the burgers this morning, but I was still cleaning like crazy..
Anyways, thanks to EPPP's raw organization thread, I have reorganized the fridge and the freezer and several major cupboards, and I am tackling my office space little by little each day.
I already feel less stressed out from just those tasks!
I still have quite a bit more clutter to tackle, but I dont mind at all right now, as long as I stay on task with school stuff..
today's menu:
Today:
am: garden smoothie: carrot, tomato, beet, mixed berries, bananas, agave (It grew into a yum over the course of drinking it!)
exerc: scraped ice and snow off the car - about 25 min; cleaned up bedroom, put away laundry..
pm: sunflower pate' on collards, topped with sliced red peppers, avocado, tomato and black olives... SOOOO YUMMY!! Even hubby liked it (I did use a Wasa crackers for his plate though)
apple, pear, and orange..
I think I want to have some marinated greens for dinner if I can make them in time. If not, I will probably have some pate' on a nori sheet with some avo for dinner.
what's in the box:
making pumpkin flax crackers as we speak ----ooh they smell sooo good!
Hubby has discovered MAGIC, and is a bit peeved by the price, but enjoys the smell that is coming from it, and when I pulled out a tray, he said... " oh cool, like that DVD we watched -- that lady made something like that"....
hubby is leaning towards raw much more easily now.. especially with potential film opportunities emerging (i'll clue you in when we get final details)
The only thing is trying to get him to make things for himself, or to be able to recognize items in the fridge that he can use to make what he enjoys eating --- without relying on me to make and prepare everything.
I enjoy cooking AND uncooking, but sometimes I feel an added burden to take care of my hubby because he is not paying attention to himself. We talked about that this morning, and I think he is more open an honest about what WE need to do to slow down our lives and take care of ourselves and each other.
Even though I got a few things done, I feel really really proud of myself and my ability to focus today.
I think I will be doing the chocolate smoothies and garden smoothies more often. They are really satisfying!
Okay, off to join hubby for dinner.
Bless you guys!! See ya tomorrow, God willing!
