Yam Bisque!! - 5 stars!!

Rate this Entry
HI everyone --

beppa & shine79: yes the pumpkin nog is THAT GOOD! But dont sub the nutmeg!! That is a key ingredient!

tiggerbounce: I usually buy organic banana chips from the store. I hope to make my own when the magic box comes!!

I am doing a soup challenge for myself, to encourage me to eat more veggies and cool fruti veg blends! So far so good. here's my tally
-pumpkin nog - 4 stars
-cream of broccoli - 3 stars ( probably a good cracker to make though!
-yam bisque - 5 stars! This IS AWESOME!!
-mashed potatoes and gravy - 4 stars! maybe I will make the parsnip version on goneraw.com - it really hits the spot -- reminds me of flavorful grits/cornmeal.. without the corn aftertaste...

I went on a bit of a grocery spree -- for some reason, I have been grocery shopping DAILY for raw ingredients this week!!! NOT A GOOD THING IF YOU ARE A STUDENT!

BUT -- I am blessed that hubby doesnt complain or criticize, except when he cant tell what is edible and what is for show in the fridge... He loves all the food I make, with the exception of a few new things I tried when we were newlyweds (my first tofu stirfry -- not memorable in a good way!)

Anyways, ON WITH THE SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUUUPPPP!!

I did the yam bisque (doubling the recipe) and processed it with the S-blade first, then moved the equivalent of 2 cups to my portable blender and the rest to a storage container. I used the "liquefy" option on my blender ( I think its a 7 year old Osterizer... 2 yr old blades, though..)

And voila! Yam Bisque was born, and it was TASTY!!! I added a litle more curry than the recipe, and it was really really good! I wanted it to be a little warmer, but when my deydrator comes in, I definitely plan to use it for warming.

And I am satisfied. No cravings at all! I did have a few Moroccan olives (oil cured!! DOUBLE YUM!) and a few grapes.

todays menu:

morning:
15 min of rebounding ( I am including that in my food menu - its that impt!)
pear

marinated greens, with sun-dried tomato, bell pepper, and avocado.. It tasted wonderful -- planning on replenishing the marinated greens stash for sure!!!

pm:
banana chips
"raw mashed pot." and mushroom gravy

I feel my monthly cycle approaching, so I made sure to drink more water today and yesterday ( last nite I had a coconut water before bed). Ate some leftover mashed potatoes and gravy ( extra yum today - my body was asking for it!)

I think the chocolate smoothie I had last nite left me waaayy too alert to sleep well. I was tossing in bed a lot last nite.

I was able to get through the whole day with no problems, and "Eve", (as some people call it) came by just as quietly and unassumingly this evening.

No cramps, no pain, no hypoglycemic symptoms. Just me. and Eve. She'll "leave in 3 days or so", but She'll be back next month!

So I know definitely that the SAD crap I ate around this time last month really messed me up hormonally...

I am wondering how to preserve the extra stuff I have for all these soups/smoothie stuff I have made so far...

-pumpkin nog
-cream of broccoli
-mashed potatoes
-yam bisque

Do you know how long they keep in the fridge? Should I freeze them?
What should I do with extra soaked cashews, seeds, or nuts? Just cover with water and refrigerate? or puree and store?

I have so many questions now that I am actually making stuff!

- tomorrow, I plan to make:
zucchini hummus (LOLF)
butternut squash soup (LOLF)
sunflower herb cheese on goneraw.com
more marinated greens!!! YUMMY
spicy fries (LOLF)
Dill Cheese Dip (maybe)

So wish a sister luck -- plan on having lots of options, since we are expecting 6 inches of snow on Sat.

Blessings, and

RAWK IN IT ALL DAY LONG!!

Naija

Im thinking Star maybe I would have added more spices and avocado -- it was a little watery -- not soupy enough for me.. The yam bisque really had a soupy thickness that I enjoyed... the broccoli I think I needed to liquefy it more in the blender and not the food processor..... I will try it again, though!
