VATA food chart :)) ayurveda continued..

Rate this Entry
since I tend to have an imbalanced VATA dosha, it is largely digestive issues dealing with air, or poor elimination/absorption/digestion. THis all reflects on the way I feel and my foggy thinking, as well as my tendency for overthinking and worrying.

B vitamins are my friends and so are the C vitamins! I need LOTS OF these, and thank goodness I am eating raw so I dont have to take so many pills!

here is my ayurvedic chart for VATA dosha ( recommended foods)

Foods that will Balance Vata (Enjoy)

Fruits
Bananas, avocados, oranges, grapefruits, grapes, cherries, peaches, plums, mangos and papayas
(I did have a 3 week love affair with cherries in June! I had about 1/2lb of them every DAY!)

Vegetables
Beets, carrots, squash, tomatoes, okra, onions, asparagus, artichokes, cucumber, green beans, olives, sweet potato (cooked not raw)
(I also had a lot of salads with artichoke in them the first few weekd of July- YUM!)

Grains
Amaranth, oats, wheat, white rice, brown rice, wild rice
(i love oatmeal and brown rice -- but I am not missing it right now, winter may be an issue. Can I make this raw when the time comes? maybe I should work on the Rejuvelac drink too..)

Beans
In moderation: Aduki, black and red lentils, mung, tofu
(hmm, I need to get ta sprouting -- i had some mock tuna with the mung and lentil sprouts during the Mar challenge - I liked it!)

Nuts
Almonds, walnuts, cashews, coconut, hazelnut, peanuts, pecans, pine, pistachio, macadamia -- all nuts are good for Vata!
(love em all! just keep forgetting to eat them.. Soaked nuts and seeds have made all the difference - when I dont soak them, I see em later, if you know what I mean..lol!)

Meat
beef, chicken, turkey, duck, eggs, freshwater fish, seafood, shrimp
( not an option, although occasionally I want a hard-boiled egg..)

Sweeteners
Honey, fructose, turbinado, maple syrup, molasses, sucanat
( I like molasses, maple syrup and agave nectar the most)

Well, so far, I think I have had most of these foods, although there are some that are not here that I have had as well. some of the other fruits and veggies give me gas, but if I mix them with bananas or other things on the list, I dont seem to have a problem.

I will be posting the PITTA and KAPHA dosha info too, so you can see where you may fall.

Foods that will Aggravate Vata (Avoid or eat very sparingly)
Fruits
Apples, cranberries, pomegranite, watermelon, pears
( I agree with this - I dont eat many of these, unless in a smoothie.. and I did get diarrhea from watermelon once.. but I like bosc pears, but I usually put them in a sald with walnuts and spinach, yum!)

Vegetables
brocolli, brussel sprouts, cauliflower, celery, eggplant, tomatoes, white potatoes, mushrooms, peppers, peas, turnips
( now THIS i dont necessarily agree with. I usually blend these with zucchini or avos, or marinate them in a salad.. I LOVE MY STUFFED MUSHROOM! Im also glad there are no leafy veggies on this list!)

Grains
Barley, millet, corn, buckwheat, rye, granola, quinoa, wheat bran, oat bran
(ehhh... except for the corn, I dont really eat these.. but now Im curious, lol!)

Beans
Black, black eyed peas, garbanzos, kidney, lima, navy, pinto, soy, split peas, tempeh
(i loved garbanzos for my humuus, but oh well.. not really missing out on these)

Nuts
Nuts are good for vata! (YAY !! I have to partake!)

Meat
Lamb, pork, rabbit, venison
(ewwww -- i did like gyros and lamb roast occasionally, though!)

Sweeteners
White sugar ( not a problem for me!)
