Juice Fasting Day 1

Rate this Entry
My beginning weight is 149.2 lbs.

The plan is to drink lots of water, fresh juices, and as many smoothies as necessary to sustain my energy levels.

At the moment my smoothies include nut milks. However, as time progresses I will see if I can cut those out. Yes, I am addicted to coffee, so eventually I will be cutting that out as well. But I am not quite ready to do just that yet.

Included in my regime I will be doing colonics (enemas) but I do not plan on giving you the details of that. However, I will be happy to answer questions if anyone has them.

So here is how my fast played out today:

1 liter of water.

1 cup coffee.

1 liter fresh cold pressed apple juice with 1 cucumber and a bit of ginger mixed in.

It is a bit shocking to think that I have consumed less than 300 calories all day long. Yet here it is almost 8:30 at night and my tummy is only lightly starting to rumble. My energy levels seem to be good and my head is clear. So far day one has been a success.

Maybe later I will make a smoothie before bed. If I do this it will likely be spinach mixed with pineapple and banana in a coconut water base. However, if I can avoid it I think I will.

You aren't really fasting. The coffee is not good but at least you only had one cup. Smoothies before bed would be the least sensible time of day I would think. Check out the fasting forum for some really helpful information and help. Consider going raw while you give up coffee and then you'll be in a better position to fast.

    Hello Mystic Tree,

Thank you for the friendly welcome to blogging.

I appreciate your concerns especially regarding the coffee. However, I am not planning on sticking to the coffee I am just transitioning off of it for the first few days which is a big reason why I am still on smoothies. I know that drinking coffee while on a fast can be dangerous.

Last night I actually did not end up doing a smoothie, that was just a tentative plan just in case if I found my self in a crunch unable to sleep because of hunger. Instead I compromised and made some orange juice.

The smoothies are also transitional for me and I am trying to use up some things that can not be juiced such as bananas.

I have been doing a lot of research on fasting, including reading several books, reviewing several scientific articles and checking out the forums.

Yes I am doing a light fast. This is my first fast so I am going easy on myself. I imagine that as the fast progresses I may even cut out juice for a few days and do strictly water. However, for now, allowing myself a few smoothies I do not think is such a bad thing. Especially because when I do my next grocery run I will only be buying juicing materials, not smoothie materials.

I recognize that this may not be what you consider fasting, especially because you are experienced. However, fasting has many definitions. The most common definition is just simply the voluntary abstinence from all or some kinds of food or drink for varying lengths of time. Some medical dictionaries even consider fasting 600 calories or less.

In my eyes I am fasting. Perhaps as I become more experienced my definition of fast will change. Maybe I should say that I am doing a cleansing, does that sound better to you?

Thank you for your comments and your concerns, and good luck on your water fast. Now that takes real dedication and I find that very admirable!

    Best Wishes,
    Crystal
