I met an old work colleague on my way from work the other day. Must be 2 years since I saw her and she walked right past me. Even when I said "hello. How are you?" she looked suspiciously at me as though I must be about to mug her (she is a diminutive Polish woman who looks like a child - she gets picked on by strangers a lot). I like to think I don't look like a mugger but the friend I was walking with has electric blue streaks in her hair so I suppose it's possible!
When, in desperation, I said her name her eyebrows shot up and asked me to remind her who I was. When I said my name she squealed and flung her arms round me and said, as only a person speaking English as a second language could, Georgina! You look SO well; I am surprised!
It was lovely to see her again but it did make me wonder who I am now.
