A Little of This; A Little of That

Self-Care

Rating: 3 votes, 5.00 average.
Since I began my 30-Day, :30 minimum movement challenge, I've found myself taking care of myself even better than usual. I've upped my food program, eating more salads and making green (and other color) juices. I've found myself making and using body scrubs again. I'm using essential oils when working with clients.

So, what got me started?

I've been with my teacher for over 25 years. I love what we do in class and the class energy and support. I love refining what we do yet, I found myself not doing much out of class. I was doing even less since getting married.

After getting married, I stopped going out walking; I stopped preparing raw foods and not only that, we were going out and eating more. When we went out for buffet, my mind told me I had to be sure to get our money's worth so, I'd overeat and, go against wisdom and eat other than is healthy for me.

It's been 7 years and 25-30 pounds added weight!

Lucky for me, my husband began working with Hoopnotica. One day he brought home one of their hoops and 4 dvd's. That got me going! Plus! My mother-in-law was here from Denmark and SHE wanted to get into hooping! (It was so cute seeing her out in the early morning spinning that hoop!)
Looking at the dvd's and scouring YouTube, I decided to at least learn the basics and that was waist hooping. Now, I don't know about you yet, when I was younger, I could NOT keep that hoop up! Since then, Hoopnotica and others ~ including myself ~ have created "adult-sized" hoops! Hooping is now FUN!

Did you know that you can burn about 400-600 calories an hour playing with hoops????

So, here's my point. I found something that is FUN to do! I even took Hoopnotica's Teacher Training and learned even more and refined some things I was already doing!

Finding something fun to do has gotten me doing more of the things my teacher has taught, especially with clubs and kettlebells.

Finding something fun to do has upped my food program.

Finding something fun to do has gotten me to make my own sugar scrubs which all lead to daily/better, self-care.

What could be better than that?

Check in over at Bodacious Living where I'll be posting videos, recipes and more to assist YOU in living a BOLD and AUDACIOUS life!

Bye for now!

I loved hoops when I was a kid and hooped for hours! I'm going to look into sourcing an adult sized one in the UK.
    Thanks for your post.

You're welcome. Are you on Facebook at all? I'm on a few hooping groups and pages there. Maybe someone there can tell you where to get them. I know Hoopnotica here ships to the UK but have NO idea of the cost.

yes I am on facebook. I'll look up hooping in the UK. I wonder if I can still do it? I'll soon remember I expect :)

Ohhh, there's much more to it now than when we were kids! So much more fun! Waist, hip, thigh, chest and shoulder hooping; floating; jumps; halos, passing, corkscrews, etc. Just go to YouTube and put in "hooping", "hoopdancing", etc.

well I have a hoop ... it's about 42" across and I am pretty rubbish at it tbh. Most of that is down to the lack of practice over the past 35 years but I did wonder if I added sand to the inside whether that would help and also if I wrap the piping that I have used to make the hoop with something grippy, would the increase in friction against my body help?

I can already tell that I may become addicted. Thanks Revv :)

Sanding the inside or, find a place that has "grip tape"... I use gaffer's tape on my hoops which helps them grip. Also, I've been told, if you expose skin, it'll grip better.

I was REALLY bad at it when I began. I took a 6-week class and by the end of the class all I could do was waist spin. Kept at it it until I could do 300+ rotations w/out stopping.

Addiction in this = good! :)

Someone's coming over this evening to hoop with me. I'll have her take some pics of me with my hoops.

Thank you :) You are a great support in this. I am thinking the stuff they use on cricket bat handles (baseball maybe in the US) would be grippy. I'm not sure I am ready for skin exposing although my bf did make the comment that it would help ;)

I shall look forward to the piccies

You're welcome. Yeah, that might work. Skin exposing would basically just be midriff. I'm sure your bf would like that. lol

Are you on FaceBook? I've got my Fitness Journey on there and lots of links to hoopers which may or may not assist. I'm also putting up my pics there and inspirational hooping vids that I find. The link is at the very top of the this post... 30/30. If you're not on FB, no worries.
