A Little of This; A Little of That

Are You a "use to" Person?

Rate this Entry
I had just finished prepping for my UStream show and gone out for my walk when I realized I NEEDED to come back here and write this up. If I didn't I'd have said it all in my head and forgotten it by the time I came back.

I'm realizing too that I really need to empty my voice recorders and take one with me every time I go out so I don't have to cut my walk short. I did get in over 3000 steps before coming home though.

O.k., to the topic at hand ~ being a "Use To" person.

I go to quite a few networking meetings and meet various people and when they see what I eat they'll ask if I'm vegetarian. When I say "yes" they'll often say "I USE TO be".

When I meet people who ride motorcycles, now, I'm a "USE TO" person. Before a friend died in a auto/mc collision and another lost his leg (same crash), I rode. I have to catch myself to not say I "use to" ride so they ask me, why don't you ride anymore as I don't want to inject them with MY stuff about riding!

What I like to hear is "I USE TO smoke, drink, do drugs but I don't anymore!"

Instead I hear "I USE TO do daily appreciations; walk every day; exercise; eat well, etc." I also know I'm not going to ask them why they don't any more. It's not my biz. I don't want to hear their dreary excuses for why they don't.

This came up for me recently in an online conversation with a gent who told me his girlfriend "use to" be a vegetarian ~ before she met him. Enough said.

What brought this up for me is a couple of times over the past months I've caught myself saying "I USE TO be able to get up off the floor easily" and "before I got married I USE TO go walking daily".

For me, when I say "I USE TO", I want it to be consciously attained. By that I mean "I USE TO be a meat eater (well, it's been 24 years now); I USE TO procrastinate on getting in my daily play; I USE TO be angry; I USE TO contemplate suicide (that's over 15 years ago)...

See what I mean? Keep the good and USE TO the not-so good. Now, I want to say I CAN get up off the floor easily; I DO get up and move daily; I AM aware of what goes in my mouth and supports MY body.

I USED TO use excuses that I just couldn't seem to do it. Now I am doing it:)

With your help and all the wisdom on this forum.

Collective wisdom is amazing. I had coffee (well tea!) with about 8 women yesterday and we just talked and every so often someone would go "what's that, I've not heard about that, tell me more" One lady took notes all morning. LOL. We were just talking, nothing in particular. Neighbors who get together every couple months. Been a couple years since I've gone cause I didn't USED TO have time (I thought)

I thought a lot about this one last night and I think my USED TOs boil down to this:

    I choose to be lazy.....

So.....I USED TO <fill in blank> is I CHOSE TO BE LAZY and stopped doing things that made me feel good/were important to me, etc

    Or this:

    I don't think I'm worth it.....

So.....I USED TO <fill in blank> is I DON'T THINK I'M WORTH IT and stopped doing things that made me feel good/were important to me, etc

Absolutely! Wisdom, knowledge and experience. I'm actually thinking of joining a knitting group to just be chatting with other women. We'll see how that goes. lol

Sounds like self-sabotage to me. I see/hear that so often. Laziness, procrastination, don't feel worthy/deserving... GREAT awarenesses, Shine.

Self-sabotage is huge for me and I am finally beginning to understand this - now I need to work on ways to move beyond it.

I actually think this is a big reason for all my miscarriages (et al) considering there is nothing medically wrong with either my husband or myself. The negative energy self-sabotage creates is NOT a nurturing environment!!

Hmmm. That's interesting. In actuality is HUGE for almost everyone ~ many just don't recognize it.

Have you tried sentence completions, EFT or Emotion Code? These may assist in getting to the bottom of things because even though consciously you want to have a child (children), something unconscious is stopping you.

For instance in sentence completions if both of you say this and end it with 6-10 different endings ~

One reason I don't want children is....

    If we had children.....

Don't worry with whether it sounds REALLY dumb or not... it's the lil monkey hanging around in the subconscious that you need to access.

    For EFT ~

Even though we constantly sabotage our desires we choose to love, honor and cherish ourselves and our lives.

I totally forgot about my experience with fertility until I read Revvells reply to you Shine. We were trying for our second and having no luck. Went through the usual testing with no real reasons found. Eventually we decided that one was fine and stopped trying. Years later I am at a psychologist who thinks (and I totally agree) that my mind was not letting my body get pregnant. I was scared I would repeat my mothers history and have a second child who would be mentally handicapped (like my younger sister). And those thoughts were always in my mind but I still thought I wanted to do it. Apparently not...

Anyway, just another story about how strong your subconscious is and how the body listens.

Good luck in finding answers. Revvells sentence completions are very powerful. You may be surprised with what comes out of your mouth when you say one reason I don't want children is...

And once its out - it can be dealt with :)

This is SO true. When I work with new clients with sentence completions they are amazed at what comes up. Much of the time, it makes no sense whatsoever BUT, it's still in our subconscious and as Snoops says, once it's out it can be dealt with. Many times, all one has to do it get it up and out and it's done! How cool is that?

Very good point! This really had got me thinking about it! I really couldn't think of when I would say those words till now! And yes I totally get it!! Phrase the "use to" for the negative but not for the positive. Had I directed the phrase toward anything positive in any way. Yes, I have!! This is the biggest one for me! I've been an artist my whole life and been saying that I used to be an artist for the past ten years!! Oh how much I wanted to get back to being an artist for those past ten years! especially now these days!! SO I AM AN ARTIST!!! It's a breakthrough for positive and a good tool to throw out the negative!!i

Right now, I'm reading this book, The Hidden Messages in Water by Masaru Emoto. The movie, What the Bleep do I Know is when I first found out about what we think and say does have an impact on our reality sort of a thing. Didn't think it mattered before and now I do when I've look back on my life as far as the words that t have chose to say and believe in.

Thank you, Revvell!! I'm now liberated to be an artist because I will no longer say I used to be an artist ever again!! I'm an artist for many more years to come!!! :)

Shine, thank you for letting me know you're watching! As I said on Bodacious Living, I've not been getting any feedback so... wondering if anyone is even watching sooo... just kind of haphazard about doing it.

Thank you for supporting yourself and letting me know that what I'm doing is making a difference. More to come! ((( hugs )))
