This week is going by SO fast. I can't believe Quentin goes back to school on Monday. Man, I hate this time of year.
Yesterday afternoon Quentin and I took off walking up to the hair salon to get our hair cut. I don't particularly like the way she cut his but I LOVE mine. Check it out.
Then, from there we walked over to the grocery store where I picked up a nectarine and a fig for lunch. I had never tried a fig before but they looked too tempting not to snag one. It was very yummy. Afterward we walked up to the school to meet his new 5th grade teacher for the year. He got the one that I requested which is fantastic! I spent about an hour just hanging out and chatting with Nick, his teacher from last year and the guy that I co-taught a few things with. He apparently talked me up to this year's teacher so she's already said she has LOADS of stuff for me to do. YAY!!!!!
I was slightly irritated with this one mom though. She was in all of Quentin's classes except last year. She has a very imposing and off-putting personality. I was standing there talking to her for a few minutes when this kid walks up and says to her, "Are you..." and she buts in to finish the sentence with, "going to be homeroom mom? YES, I've already told the teacher I would be." To which the girl replied that that was not even remotely close to what she was going to ask. Now, first you'd probably have to know the woman to realize what she was doing here but she totally did that for my benefit. I've been homeroom mom for a few years now. After every year the teacher will go to the one I requested for the next year and tell them that they NEED to have me as homeroom mom. I enjoy doing it and the teachers are pleased with the job I do. I'm SO not bragging here, just stating a fact. Well, this woman and I spoke last year and realized we were both requesting the same teacher. She went to her THEN and asked if she could be this year's homeroom mom. I'm actually laughing at this because it's so desperate. I have never ever asked to be homeroom mom, the teacher has always asked me so it just seems odd to me that she would go begging for the position. Anyway, I was a little irritated that she felt the need to make such a production of it last night but not in the LEAST upset that she is homeroom mom. In fact, I've spent countless dollars over the last 4 yrs. buying things for the class when no one else contributed, providing snacks and drinks that parents forgot to bring in and all sorts of other stuff. Like I said, I've enjoyed it but I think my husband will be glad (from a monetary standpoint anyway) that the baton has been passed.
The librarian came to me last night too and she was so upset. That poor woman has been through the wringer and back again. Well, at the end of last year her assistant left and she needed to hire a new one. Usually she got the final say on who was hired but this time, with a new principal things were not done the old way and a woman was hired without the librarian's knowledge. Last night she came to me absolutely mortified and almost in tears because she had originally asked ME to take the assistant librarian job. She felt so bad that she had basically offered it to me (which would have been perfectly acceptable in years past) and then the new administration went behind her back and hired someone without her knowledge. It's really, REALLY okay though because I didn't want the full-time position anyway. I would have been willing to job-share it with someone else but not full-time.
Then (see I told you this week has been crazy-fied) my sister's friend who has cancer emailed me back and she's coming over to talk next Wednesday. I'm going to make her a Raw dinner and let her check out my recipe books and equipment while we chat. I'm actually really excited about this. Normally, this sort of thing would be WAY outside my comfort zone but I'm feeling oddly at ease with this whole situation.
The plan for today is to finish up some house cleaning stuff and then I promised Quentin we'd play Wii and some board games. Over the weekend Quentin and Dale used their gift cards to buy Wii Sports Resort so Quentin has been dying for me to play it with him again.
Tomorrow we're going to the Philadelphia Zoo, Friday Quentin and I are doing a walking tour and going to visit my grandmother, Sunday the in-laws are coming up for a birthday bar-b-q for my father-in-law and then Monday after we drop Quentin off at school I'm going to see a movie by myself and do some walking. Don't be surprised if you just see streaks where I used to be for the next week or so because I'm going to be buuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuusy.
Edit: Gah... why do my pictures keep showing up HUGE? I re-sized them and they showed up smaller but now they're back to huge again.
