It's definitely a Journey...

I don't know what to eat....

Rate this Entry
I'm currently a moderately healthy veg*n and looking to make a leap into raw.
I have dozens of books, I've been collecting for some time now.

The only problem I have is that I don't really *like* a lot of raw foods. I have Alissa's book (first one I bought!) and I just looked through the recipes again and unfortunately didn't see anything that struck my fancy. The food all looks great, but I don't eat that kind of food now, so I don't want to eat raw versions of it. Like, the crepes, chikn burgers, or breads...I don't eat that kind of stuff now, so I don't really have a taste for that, so it doesn't jump out as something I want to make to eat.

I don't like mushrooms, eggplant, tomatoes (raw), carrots sometimes, bell peppers sometimes (i'm kind of really particular about foods in a weird way...), salad, sprouts, raw broccoli, raw cauli...

This is definitely taking some brainstorming...I think I just need to think around more.

Like, I really enjoy lettuce wraps with veggies with a cashew sauce on top...but I won't want to eat that every day.

I really want to be able to enjoy fruits and veggies in their natural state, but i'm not there yet. I don't know what to make to get over that ''hump''.

I suppose I'm just venting because I really WANT to eat healthy, I just feel that I don't LIKE the healthy foods!

I used to be a junk food princess, so I still am "used" to eating like that. Going out all of the time, opening a bag and eating something oily, eating a pint of coconut ice cream...

Currently, my daily intake looks like this:

I usually skip breakfast(either not hungry, or morning nausea) and make a smoothie(usually cacao) around 11:30-12:00

Head to the juice bar for some orange/beet juice with a tiny salad(on a good day) and get either Snap Pea Crisps or potato chips (although now, I've said NO to anything but baked to wean myself off of these, totally addicted to kettle chips)

Dinner is usually stir fry with Quorn chicken bits and brown rice, an Indian dish, or vegetable tamales with beans or brown fiesta rice. Sometimes its bean chili, things like that.

I WANT to eat healthy foods...I just don't LIKE healthy foods :/

People start craving what they eat. In your case, you may have to just jump in and commit to a certain amount of time (say, 30 days) to get yourself used to healthier eating. If you "fall off the wagon" and eat something less healthy, just jump back in and keep trying.

It's worth it! I am feeling better after only one month. I no longer feel tempted to eat cooked foods--much. I know how to make chips, cookies, ice cream, and other "fun" foods if I feel like having them, and it really helps to be able to make raw items that help me not feel deprived. I know you can find a way of eating healthily that will work for you! Good luck!

I know how you feel NJ.. I think when we are getting started - many of us experience the same thing. And for some it might be a little more difficult if you don't like certain raw veggies.

For me - I had NO idea what a RAW food LIFEstyle even was! So -- I simply followed the 30 day plan Alissa has in her book. It worked for me because I didn't have to think! I was a bit wary a time or two - especially of anything that called for dates. They remind me of coachroaches! (yes they are THAT big here in Hawaii!) but I gave it a try.

during that month I began to get a better idea of what I liked, and I also realized that most raw food recipes made WAAAAy to much food for one person. So I ended up wasting a lot of food.

over the years I've realized that my tastes change... some times I crave this or that. But I usually keep a few staples on hand.
Alissa's flax crackers, maybe some raw onion bread (that surprising doesn't taste like onions - cuz frankly I'm no onion fan!!)

I keep at least a small bag of raw brownies in the freezer, just in case I want one. and... one thing I have always loved - raw or not -- frozen grapes. I loove frozen grapes, I will grab a handful and eat them at night. I throw a handful into chia pudding. Give it a try - they are quite addictive!

over time, you'll experiment - and find taste combos you like - or salads that are quick and easy....

and make sure to cruise the recipe sections -- so many ideas there!

RAWk on NJ...!! it's all good!!

oh!! since you like veggie wraps -- you can change up the filler - some times taco meat (walnuts), or cashew mixture, veggies ... and also - change up the dipping sauce, simple changes can sometimes make a huge difference... okay - I'll go away now!!
