Green Smoothies, on to something good

Rate this Entry
I decided on Thursday that I was going to give the GS feast a try, and I am so far pretty blown away by it. I have been consuming green smoothies for quiet a while now on a semi-regular basis. And I'll be frank, I was never quite crazy about them. Made with anything but spinach, they tasted too much like lawn mower clippings. boo.
Well, lately, trying to do the gourmet thing has just not been feasible, and I've never found eating fruit and/or vegetable in their whole, original form to be the most satisfying. I've been hearing so much about GS feasts and what a wonder they are so I thought that this might be just what I needed for the jumpstart to really get me going.
Well, I re-read 12 Steps to Raw Food by Victoria Boutenko, and her chapter, Ode to a Green Smoothie really helped. I've upped the ratio of fruit to greens (basically, I keep adding fruit until it's yummy). I also had an interesting revelation. Whenever I try to chug a GS and drink it down the way I used to devour a milkshake, my gag reflex would hit, and strong. Then I noticed that I was fighting the urge to chew my smoothie. So I stopped resisting. I take a mouthful, move my jaw around like I'm chewing and let myself swallow bits here and there. Gag reflex is gone, and on top of that the flavor is improved. wow.
Today I am starting the day off with a Kale, Mango, Banana, Sesame smoothie. Filled up the whole silly vitamix, I expect it will take me about 2 hours to drink the whole thing. Onward and upward!

Cool! Funny how green smoothie preferences change as we move along. I used to drink a quart in half an hour because I liked them fresh. Now I have no problem saving some to enjoy later. I like the combo you put together today. Nutritious and Delicious.
