sick, Sick, SICK!

I can't brag about not getting sick anymore. I have been sick for the past 48 hours. Wednesday morning I thought I was suffering from fatigue or detox brought on by all the exercise I got hiking in the park. Wednesday afternoon it hit me like a ton of bricks. I scratched my plan for dinner. Made juice with apple, fennel, and ginger root. Then went to bed. Except for frequent trips to the bathroom I didn't get up again for 48 hours.

Thurday (yesterday) I called the doctor to ask whether she thought it was food poisoning. Her guess was flu. In either case, treatment would be the same. She said not to eat. If I have to eat, only have a banana. If there is any bleeding go to the emergency room, otherwise call her on Monday.

Today I'm starting to feel like there is hope for recovery. The headache, muscule pain, fever, and dizziness have diminished. I've been out of bed for a couple hours, but won't be for much longer. My stomach and abdomen are still tender and painful, and I am extremely fatigued. When I'm done here I will take my hot water bottle and go back to bed.

Not eating is not a problem. Still have no desire to eat. Yesterday I had a cup of juice, apple, celery, a tiny slice of lemon, blended with aloe vera and the contents of 2 probiotic capsules. Today I had the same, but with peach instead of celery.

It used to drive me crazy when my husband would be sick and he would lay in bed moaning. Now I now how that feels.

Speaking of my husband, he found out this morning he is going to be in Omaha until July 5. Another week! I was hoping in his absence that I could go on a juice or smoothie fast after I got over my initial desire for comfort foods. Guess I got my wish.

Oh Knitster, I am so sorry to hear you've had a miserable time of it. Sounds like perhaps the worst of it is over. Hope so.

    (((hugs)))

Thanks, islegirl. The worst is over. Even though I feel like crapola I managed to stay out of bed so far today. Not much longer though. Time for a nap.

I put out a question on how to replace electrolytes. Got some great answers. I'm sipping on a little bit of coconut water now.

    :)

your symptoms sound a lot like my son's... green smoothies have helped him the most.

so sorry you have been feeling punk. xox

Thanks, lodestar. I had a small banana-celery smoothie tonight. Adding some greens sounds appealing. That is a good sign! I'll try another with spinach tomorrow.

I hope your son is all better soon.

ugh, what an awful feeling--being sick is the pits. I'll bet your body took the opportunity to get rid of a lot of nasties that had been sitting there for who knows how long. Feel better soon!

Thanks, mattshor. I am feeling better. You are right, I definitely felt like I was doing some serious detox. I got rid of 6 lbs of something. And learned I can get by with less food.

Hi there. I mentioned on the "over 50 weight loss" thread that my son had something that sounds similar. Although his fever went down after a day or two, he still had stomach cramps for like a week. I hope yours is different. Just wanted to prepare you.

You may want to try enteric-coated probiotic caps, rather than emptying the contents of some probiotic capsules, because your stomach acid destroys most of the good stuff. Enteric coated caps get into your gut, where you need it most, undigested, then begin to open there and give your gut what it needs.

Jarro-dophilus is a good enteric-coated brand. I hope you have someone who can get them for you.

Hang in there! Just thought I'd throw this at you, in the event it could help.

HTH, Sending get well wishes your way.

Thanks, Mary Kay. I'm on a $0 budget this week. Using everything I have before bringing anything else into the house. I will keep it in mind for future reference. I don't use probiotics often, but it is good to have some in the house when you need them.

Thanks for the well wishes. :)
