Trusting…Believing … finding my way back home…
I’ve been on this amazing roller coaster called ‘Life’. Some days good, many days bad, many MANY days feeling like I had the weight of the world on my shoulders.
A couple of years ago – I wrote in my blog about a true story my Kumu (Hawaiian Teacher of Hula and Spiritual Awareness) had shared with me during a very difficult time of my life. Little did I know that I would lean on that story again and again. It is so important to me – I even spoke of it in my graduation speech when I attended Alissa’s Raw Food Chef and Teacher classes last year.
Although I have shared it here before – I would like to share it once again. It’s one of those keys in life that you simply cannot travel without. It has given me direction when I felt there was no where to go, it has given me hope when I felt that all was lost, it has led me back home here with all of you. AND… it has given me strength and understanding to once again believe that I am WORTH it… and… I CAN do it. I can honor my true self, my body and my dreams by following this one truth….
PICK YOUR PATH…. NOT your Potholes.
here’s the story…..
My Kumu loves biking. She and some friends (who were professional bikers) would bike all over Hawaii. Visiting beaches, historic sites, picnic and simply – just enjoy life!
One day they were headed to a very sacred and very special site here on the Big Island of Hawaii. It was very beautiful and secluded - but the roads were not maintained. As Kumu traveled along – she kept hitting all these deep potholes, and it was causing her a lot of pain and discomfort. She said “I couldn’t imagine traveling for miles on this road filled with potholes – it was RIDICULOUS…. it was downright AWFUL and taking all the fun out of my ride, I ended up pulling over to the side – quite despondent and aggravated”.
Within a few minutes one of her friends turned around and rode back to her side and asked her “Alva – what’s up? Anything wrong??” Kumu then told me she complained and grumbled about the stupid potholes and how could ANYONE get through on this road…. griping and voicing her anger and aggravation.
Her friend then stopped her and said…. “Alva…. don’t focus on the POTHOLES…. if you do … you will CERTAINLY hit the potholes!!! Instead - simply PICK YOUR PATH…”
and then he rode away….
Kumu watched him gently weaving and dancing through the potholes… picking his path rather than focusing on your potholes.
This is the mantra that I choose to live my life by. I must not focus on the difficulties but rather …. pick my path around the potholes…. dancing gently thru life….
So…. this is my path… and I choose to follow it with you by my side…
I’m on my way back…. and I am so excited and happy to be traveling this path with you…
