when and when-not to be flexible

Rate this Entry
So I'm trying to figure out how flexible to be with daylight eating. I already know that when I'm sticking with daylight eating, I feel better, I sleep better, my mood is more stable, etc - it's obvious to me that it is what is best for me.

However, I keep having all these times come up when I make allowances to eat at night. Practically every day last week, we had dinner out with friends or family and I ate way too late. I started feeling like crap because of it.

I'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal if it was just a day here or there, but a whole week of it really set me back.

Anyway - I got back on track this week and am feeling much better! But - now I have my friend coming to town tonight, and I just found out she won't be here until sometime around 7:30. I was planning on making raw food for her, but now I don't really want to because she's getting here so late. I'm kind of hoping she'll stop and eat on her drive up instead.

Again, it wouldn't be a big deal for just one night. But, tomorrow I'm going to a potluck, and it doesn't start until 7. Then this weekend we're going to a concert at a dinner theater on Saturday, and then we're going out to dinner on Sunday with family.

I really don't want to eat late 4 nights in a row!

I listened to an interview with Paul Nison and he says whenever he goes out to dinner late with someone, he just doesn't eat. He goes and enjoys being with the person or people, but he chooses to just sit there.

I don't know if I could do that. It sounds like it would be really awkward and uncomfortable.

hmm...I don't know what to do...

I feel your dilemna. It takes alot of strength to not eat with everyone else and then explain why you are not when they ask. Ack!
Maybe, you could call your friend for tonight before she leaves or while she's on her way and tell her you'll make something for her tomorrow if she wants to go ahead and eat on her way.
Then you only have 3 days to worry about. ;)

I admire Paul Nisson, but that would feel kind of awkward for me, too.

I wonder how you would feel if you ate the bulk of your meal or heavier foods before you go out, then just have a simple salad at the dinner? You could just say you were hungry earlier and had to eat something. Which would be true!
