Returning to my Raw Roots

Rate this Entry
I've wanted to start another simple Green Smoothie fast, but it isn't working. Instead of trying to force myself I needed to re-evaluate my options.

Yesterday I woke up to the smell of waffles. I didn't eat any, but the smell triggered a desire for something special. Instead, I stuck with my plan and put an orange, banana, and spinach in the blender. Even though this is my current favorite green smoothie, I could not drink it. I put it in the fridge for later. While my family ate waffles I put apples, dates, maple syrup, and apple pie spice in the food processor. I made macadamia whip cream to top it off. Hours later, around 5:00 I drank the green smoothie. After the smoothie I was going to stop eating for the rest of the day, but didn't, couldn't, whatever. Around 9:00 I made ice creme; frozen almond milk cubes in the food processor along with frozen bananas, coconut milk, agave, and walnuts.

I feel like the raw food choices I have been making are taking me down the wrong path. That path has been a downward spiral of lethargy and depression. I’m also getting the idea that while simple green smoothies are super cleansing they are not strong enough nutritionally to fight the cravings I am getting. At least not right now. Sadly, special raw treats and sweets are not the only things I have been craving. After almost a year raw I'm getting strong cooked cravings again. The past few days have been filled with cravings for unmentionable cooked foods.

This morning I started the re-evaluation process by being quiet and listening to my body. What I'm hearing is that I want superfoods. I want to go back and revisit the foods I was eating when I started this raw venture. Mainly Superfood Smoothies and Salads, simple snacks of dried figs, or dates, a small handful of nuts.

I will continue to make a Green Smoothie whenever I feel like having one, but for now, Superfood Smoothies are going to be included in my daily diet.

Today's choices:

Breakfast: Superfood Smoothie; apple, pear, strawberries, Vitamineral Green, spirulina, maca, cacao, coconut oil

Lunch: Superfood Smoothie; bananas, strawberries, shredded coconut, sesame seeds, Vitamineral Green, spirulina, cacao, maca, lucuma, mesquite, bee pollen

Dinner: Hasn't happened yet, but I'm planning on having a big salad, about 80% greens and 20% veggies, with Jenifae's Creamy Tomato Dressing.

The affect of the first Superfood Smoothie was almost immediate. Before I had finished drinking it I felt renewed. A cloud was lifted.

I will get around to doing a fruit and veggies cleanse, including green smoothies, but not now. I'll be listening for the message telling me the time is right.

What you've said here is pretty significant, isn't it Knitster! You have learned so much about your body. I hope that I will remember this blog of yours should I have days like yours. So maybe I'd better get some more of the Superfoods myself. I have a few already. Very glad you got the lift you so badly needed. Right on!

hmm...I haven't tried much in the way of superfoods. maybe I'll get some the next time I'm out at RVS. I'm going to be in Kirkland on Fri, so maybe I'll swing over there.
glad to hear the results were so immediate for you!
