Day 120

Rate this Entry
Wow, I didn't even realize until just this second that today marks 4 months raw. That's one-third of a year down, the rest of my life to go.

Yesterday's party was fantastic. We had probably a total of about 10 people here besides DH, DS and myself. DH cooked on the grill and I made beans and potato salad for the die-hard SAD lovers. As for raw goodies, I made a huge corn salad, watermelon wedges, cantaloupe & blackberry salad and I made some mushroom veggie burgers in the dehydrator for myself. For dessert everyone had Carvel ice cream cake. I made a nice raw ice cream cake for myself with PLENTY for anyone who wanted to try it. The crust was a sort of brownie/fudge and the ice cream was banana ice cream. I topped it with fresh strawberries which totally set it off. Three people tried it and they all exclaimed that it was very good and better than they expected. My sister LOVED the crust.

I was very, very pleased with my food and must admit that I made one concession for myself. I LOVE mustard and decided that I really wanted to eat my raw burger with tomato & mustard on a spinach leaf "bun". I've tried and tried to recreate "real" mustard using raw ingredients but it is just disgusting. I suspect if I let it age awhile it might become more tolerable but that wasn't really an option yesterday. Anyway, I suppose it's a lot like the spices or nutritional yeast, so little is used so infrequently that I'm okay with it. And, I have to say, it really set the burger off in a way that made it even more delicious than it was plain. I did make sure that the mustard had no funky ingredients in it though. The only thing that made it non-raw was the fact that it was pasteurized. I'm okay with that in small amounts on occasion.

I must admit that I ate WAY too much yesterday too. Before the party I only nibbled a little on some melon, which was divine. By the time we started eating I was FAMISHED but still only ate one burger, a large spoon-full of corn salad and some more melon plus a slice of the raw ice cream cake. I could have gone to bed totally happy but DH started pulling out leftovers before bed and I ate a little more of everything. I didn't gorge on anything, it was just more food than I really needed.

Today Quentin is home with a friend who slept over last night. They've been Wii-ing this morning and will be sent to play outside momentarily. I've been chugging water all morning because I'm still pretty dehydrated. It's going to be another beautiful day out so I'm hoping to get out there and get some exercise in when Quentin's friend goes home.
