The Darker Side of Dehydrator Thermostat
I was starting to get frustrated--My eggplant bacon had been sitting in the dehydrator for days. 3 days and finally I just gave up and put them in the fridge--there were other things that I wanted and needed to do with that machine.
Put up a ferment on top of the dehydrator to keep it warm, three days later, there was still scarcely any evidence that any ferment was going on. Strange, but after 7 days we moved it to the fridge as per our directions.
Well, we'd been keeping some big jars and the like on top of the dehydrator, and wouldn't you know it, at some point the thermostat nob got turned down all the way off...I'd become the master of cool dehydrating, but wasn't using any heat at all!! No wonder everything was taking forever.
Well, I put up another batch of eggplant bacon last night--this morning I checked on it--by tonight they will for sure be totally ready to go. That's what I'm talking about. When I get home I'll make some more tasty goodies--need to start making some spinach wraps and the like for Pesaj.
