sad to see kids eat sad

Rate this Entry
Okay - I'm not a parent and I try really hard not to judge people, but it makes me so sad to see kids eating crappy food.

My niece's 1-yr birthday was yesterday and my sister-in-law sent pictures of their day. It started out with feeding her scrambled eggs, french toast and sausage It made me sick to my stomach to even think about it. Then they had two different kinds of birthday cake. Apparantly she wasn't all that keen on the cake at first, but after some coercing she started eating it and devoured it. Um, maybe take the hint that she was instinctually resistant to having it as a clue not to give it to her??? Then, she had a tuna fish sandwich. I cringed thinking of all the mercury and other toxic crap going into her poor little body.

Big sigh. At least I wasn't there to witness it in person.

okay, subject change to happier thoughts. I'm taking the day off work today. I was supposed to go skiing with a friend who in here from out of town, but there was a huge snow storm and it didn't seem safe to drive up there with all the avalanche warnings. Sadly, that means I won't get to see her because she is already up at the mountain and not here in town. bummer! so I decided since I already arranged for the day off, I would just have a lazy day at home. I went to yoga this morning and then came home and took a nap :) now I'm catching up on some emails and then I think I'll read for a while. A different friend is coming over tonight to watch "Marley & Me." I have not read the book, but it looks like it will be a good movie.

On the fasting front...today is day 3 of 5. I was a little worried about being home today. It's a lot easier for me to fast at work because I'm so distracted. The time I start craving food is when I'm home. So far so good though - partially because I purposely emptied everything from the fridge & cupboards before I began on Monday. My friend is having dinner before she comes over tonight, so no worries there about having to prepare food for her.

hope everyone has a wonderful day!

One year old! I'm sure her family thinks they are feeding her the best food possible.

Sorry your skiing plans didn't work out. Dang weather! I'm trying to convince myself it's Spring, expect rain.

    Enjoy your day! :)

I work at an elementary school. The smell of the hot lunches that the kids get makes me sick, and you can see it makes them sick as well--they get cranky tired and sluggish after lunch.

Today I was sitting in in a nutrition class in gym--the other interpreter was very amused by my insisting that spinach was a protein, and meat was a junk food that you should eat "rarely/never".

Yes, I have Grandkids now and my Kids feed them all that stuff - thinking it's good for them. I am getting better at not saying anything because, they just look at me and I can see them rolling their eyes (not literally) and saying uu-huh! Oh well. Better to shut up and try to be a better example.

Matt - I love that. Hehehehe!
