Day 87

Rate this Entry
What a gorgeous day! Hah, I feel like I say that just about every morning these days. I just love mornings. I've had about a week of my body really wanting to sleep later in the morning but I just haven't been able to stay in bed. There are things that must be done before the males get up and so I peel myself up no matter what my body wants. On Friday though, there's no school so I get to sleep in as long as I wish. Mmmm... delicious.

This morning I decided that I wanted to get up and go for a walk. I had been telling myself for weeks that I was going to go out and do it but I've made every excuse in the book. Honestly though, for awhile I was just plain frightened. I used to get out there around 5:30 and walk until sunrise but then we had a string of break-ins and then a small bomb set off in the neighborhood and... well... it just didn't feel safe. This morning though, I did it. I got up and walked 2 miles and it felt great. I loved hearing the sounds of nature and feeling the clean, crisp air circulating through my lungs. My cat, Esme, followed me for the first 1/2 mile and then gave up. She's such a momma's girl.

And finally, MY BLENDTEC CAME yesterday! I was so excited I nearly took out the FedEx guy getting to the box. Poor man had probably never seen someone so happy to get a package. Her first smoothie was... ahem... less than stellar but that has nothing to do with her performance and everything to do with me filling her 3/4 of the way full of every kind of green I have in the fridge and only a tiny bit of fruit. My throat still stings from it. Bleck! It was smooth though. Oh. So. Smooth. Then I made some applesauce for Quentin in her, which he deemed to be deliciously edible. For dinner, I made myself some creamy vegetable soup, which was very good and VERY smooth. I found though that I need to make sure to use only warmish water otherwise it gets quite toasty in there. I used hot water to begin with and between that and the blending it got a little too hot. It definitely wasn't beyond 110* because I could absolutely still stick my hand in it but having eaten lukewarm and cold things for so long now, it just felt odd and uncomfortable to be eating something like that. To remedy it I stuck in a handful of frozen corn and blended it up for a few seconds. That brought it right down to a perfectly lukewarm temp.

Something I was really concerned about before trying her out was the noise. I kept hearing people say that the BlendTec sounds like a jet taking off in your kitchen. To be perfectly honest, I didn't think it was bad AT. ALL. It's really not much worse than a juicer or food processor and it's only on for a minute or less at a time.

This morning I'm having a cantaloupe/orange/spinach green smoothie with all the seeds from both fruits ground up in it. It's deliciously light and smooth. For the rest of the day I need to do the household incidentals, iron (didn't get to it yesterday) and get everything ready for school and work tomorrow. Only one day of work this week since school is closed on Friday. Yippee!!!

Right now I have some Turnip Rawvioli and a pan of Zucchini Spinach Lasagna in the dehydrator. If I can keep my paws off until dinner I'll be feasting. :::drools::: Hopefully I'll have enough leftover though to take for lunch tomorrow.

Edited to add: Oy! I'm detoxing like nobody's business today. Good. Ness. I've got a wicked headache, I'm tired, cranky and spacey. Earlier I pulled my pillow and blanket out into the hall and slept for 1.5 hrs. Craziness!!! I should have expected it though as I've been having some craving flashes lately. A bonus though, the Turnip Rawvioli was DELICIOUS!!!!! I'm saving the lasagna for lunch tomorrow.

Exercise today:
30 min. 2-mile walk (outside)
1-mile bike ride
100 crunches
25 push-ups

Food today:
1/2 cantaloupe, 1 orange and 4 C. spinach green smoothie
the rest of the fruit salad pie
apple
plate of rawvioli (yum, yumm, yummy!!!)
