First day on Raw...

Rate this Entry
I was going to try and be healthier this year as a vegan who falls off the wagon and succumbs to eggs and dairy..
Yesterday my doctor took my blood pressure again and it is high...I am 46 and do NOT want to go on medication...ever...so this is my new resolve...to work my way into a raw diet. This morning I went over the Kensington Market to load up on veggies - planning a big salad for lunch. I already had a raw oatmeal with fruit for breakfast...which was great and yummy.

I am reading Ani's Raw Kitchen and Raw Rose (she is a B.C. author whose workshop I attended at the TVA Food Fair in the fall and loved her stuff).

If anyone can give me tips, encouragement, inspiring stories of how your health turned around I would appreciate it.
Right now I'm very excited...

Welcome - it's great to have you with us! You will be amazed at how wonderful you start feeling after the first few days of eating raw. It's the best inspiration for continuing to eat this way. Looking forward to hearing more about you.

Hello! I am always going back and forth as well. I have gotten a lot of good advice from Natalia Rose's Raw Detox Diet book... it offers steps to gradually go raw. Although the recipes are pretty simplistic and repititious, they are easy to make and not as complicated as some of the other books out there. The Raw Truth is another fave of mine. Also dk red veggie and leafy greens are great for the heart according to my husband's Naturopath. Good Luck!

Welcome to the raw lifestyle. I wish you all the success in the world. I went raw a few years ago and fell off the wagon when I eventually got bored with fruit and salad. My one piece of advice, learn the recipes!!! Spend a few weeks with a recipe book and just make everything that looks good. That will give you confidence in the kitchen and help you to continue on. I actually found Alissa's DVD helpful for this. It made her big book of "weird" recipes a lot less intimidating. Best of luck.
