Happy New Year!
Good Afternoon!
Today is December 31, 2008, and today is a very cold day! It is just noon and the temperature is -15 degrees which is warmer (?) by six degrees from earlier. The city’s temperature is lower by several degrees. I am going by my indoor/outdoor thermometer in the house for our temperatures. We have been in a cold snap for the past several days which is not uncommon for this time of year.
Our van has not started in the past couple days, so my husband brought the battery inside to warm it up with the hope that it will start when put back into the van. We may need to buy a new battery before it is all done and the van running again. Fortunately, we don’t have any place to go right now.
On the plus side, however, we have gained almost 20 minutes of daylight since December 22. The area will continue gaining more daylight until mid-June when it will begin going the other way again. The total daylight on Dec. 22 is/was 5 hours 36 minutes and that is the amount of the total dusk/dark in mid-June.
Such is life in Alaska.
Hope you all have a very good, healthy and prosperous new year!
