Hurricane Ike

Rate this Entry
Well, Ike rolled through Ohio last night. The wind started picking up about 5:30 p.m. By 6, our power was out. By 6:30, the neighbor's pine tree had crashed into the road.

Our power is still out (at home--not at work, fortunately) and will be out until 9 tonight. I think fruits and veggies will be fine, but I'll be defrosting my freezer and refilling ice cube trays tonight.

It was kind of scary listening to the storm roll through. I was wondering if we were getting a tornado. And yet, our storm was less than half the strength that Ike showed in Texas. How terrible it must have been! I have a friend who lives in Orange, Texas, and she did not evacuate. The town is 1/3 covered in water. She was able to get a message to me that she's okay, but the power will probably be out there for weeks.

So I have to count my many blessings.

Hang on to your hat! Were you kitties snuggled up with you or were they hiding somewhere? Glad you came through unscathed. Hope the power is on tonight.

The cats weren't too concerned about all the wind, actually. At its worst, I think they were hunkered down under some bushes and two of them came inside, but they didn't seem too upset.

Winston was chasing a chipmunk and the chipmunk was actually running across the wall of my house (outside--it's stone, but he found purchase on it). Then the wind blew the chipmunk off the wall and onto Winston!

Wind is pretty scary, alright. We only got a bit of it and some rain. We had tornado watch, but nothing happened. Glad all is okay with you and yours.

Tornado's are scary to me. I'll take an Earthquake anytime. I have family in Bay City, Tx. My sister and her daughter's family evacuated but, my brother did not and they are all fine. No power and lots of water though.
