Day 3 - Day After Water Fast

Rate this Entry
I did a one day water fast yesterday. I went backed to raw food today. To be honest, I felt much better yesterday than I do today. I was able to somehow persevere and stay on the water fast yesterday. I had to volunteer at a theater that serves delicious smelling popcorn and had a pizza party for some volunteers nearby. But I made it. I drank my usual 3/4 gallon of water and I am wondering if I should have tried to drink more yesterday. I was more tired than usual but I didn't feel headachy or awful.

I woke up pretty tired this morning and had a half a banana right away with a quart of water. Later in the morning I proceeded to have my usual raw breakfast of lentil sprouts and a green smoothie. I am still hitting the water and trying to eat bits of food throughout the day. However, I have a pretty bad headache and I think the high fiber breakfast was a bit much for my system right after the fast. So, I will definitely have to experiment with this regarding what I have the day following the fast and how much water I try to drink during the fast.

I was a little bummed that I felt so nasty today since I had hoped to do these one day water fasts every week (recommended in Brian Clemente's raw book). I was worried about picking the best day each week to conduct the water fast since I didn't want to do it on a really busy day. However, it looks like the next day might be the real issue. So, now I have to manage to pick a day that is not too busy and make sure that the next day is a light day too. Hopefully the fast and the recovery will get easier with time. I actually felt really good about doing the fast yesterday and felt like I could benefit from these weekly breaks to my system. I am sure the whole thing is a process....

Growing up, we fasted for religious reasons (once a year) and I always came off the fast slowly with a small glass of citrus juice. Then I would have a small meal about an hour later - something bland like toast (hmmm, not raw but you get the idea). after that I would eat some protein and then basically have a normal next meal. Again, this was way before raw, so my protein was meat or eggs, but you can use nuts or maybe a green smoothie... Good luck, hope you feel better.
