Crazy about Supersmoothies

Rate this Entry
Call me crazy, but I'm going to have David Wolfe's superfood smoothie everyday. Tried it yesterday and again today. Kept me strong all day. It's not for the squeamish. Yesterday I had to drink it without looking at it. Now that I know how powerful it is, I'm okay with looking at it. Here is my version:

Juice on 1 orange, banana, 2 Tablespoons cacao*, 1/4 cup goji berries, 1 Tablespoon each agave, green superfood, almond butter, 2 teaspoons each flax oil, coconut oil, 1 t. each spirulina, maca, empty in capsule of MSM, fo-ti, blue-green algae, a splash of water if needed to blend. *revised/reduced cacao 7/13

Don't try it without the cacao and agave. In fact, I can't recommend that you try it at all, but it works for me. Wolfe uses mango or papaya and cacao butter, I had to substitute with orange, banana, flax oil, coconut oil, and almond butter. According to Wolfe, the cacao is an appetite suppressant. I am a believer.

Yesterday, I had a very close encounter with Macaroni and Cheese. I didn't go to my neighbor's funeral. Stayed home and prepared dinner for the gathering of about 20 people after the burial. Made the ultimate SAD comfort food; super rich, creamy cheddar cheese sauce, over shell noodles, with a healthy green salad, and a rainbow vege tray. My daughter helped stir the cream sauce and grated the cheddar. She also handled the taste testing. Thank goodness she was here to help! I almost taste tested it myself, just out of habit. Caught myself before it got to my mouth. Because of my smoothie I had the energy to put it all together (on hyperdrive), and was not tempted to eat it.

After it was over I (took off my supergirl cloak) sat down and ate almost a pound of organic bing cherries, picked that morning. Doesn't get any fresher or better than that! Dinner was green juice: kale, parsley, beet, carrot, apple, followed by RAWvolutions Egg-less egg salad on Lydia's green crackers. It was good. Will put it on my list of keepers.

Today, started with my usual; Pied Cow Rooibos Chai Tea, with honey and almond milk. Did the supersmoothie a couple hours later. Snack..shared the rest of my fudge-raspberry torte w/SIL (she liked it). We also had some herbal apple butter chai iced tea, sweetened with agave. That was extra special. Late lunch of the egg-less salad and crackers. Dinner was a big bowl of escarole with lemon-honey-mustard-ginger dressing, veges on the side.

Have some cauliflowerettes, marinating in a sprinkle of braggs and sea salt for later. If I don't want it tonight, will be even tastier tomorrow.

Everything is going very well. It's been hot. My ankles are swollen, but not as badly. No rash around lower legs. Caffeine withdrawal headaches gone.

Going to go sit with my husband now. I'll be knitting, and pretending to be interested in whatever he's watching on tv.

Looking forward to a hot, lazy day tomorrow. Wishing you all whatever you desire.

I'm drooling over here after reading your food choices. Kudos for not "tasting" the mac and cheese and even bigger kudos for making it for them. You have a beautiful heart :)

Wow! That's quite the concoction! How long did it fill you up for? I'm guessing you had some good energy from it as well? I could use something this last week for appetite supression......I'm so proud of you for resisting the macaroni/cheese! Great job~

My brew filled me up for 4-5 hours. Which is pretty good for about 8-12 oz. of smoothie. (Made it today with mango, had to add more water.) Think I could have gone as long as necessary. I'll see how that goes in future.

RawKnitster, what are you knitting right now? I have a half-finished baby blanket that mocks me from my knitting bag as I walk by. Also, did you have to order your raw cacao? I don't see it at Whole Foods; although, I didn't expect to...

Emma-Liza, I did get my raw cacao from Whole Foods. Previously ordered online. Today, I'm working on a poncho. (Thanks for asking.) Can't tell you how many projects I have on needles. I don't want to know. I love the start-up process, get bored with the knitting. Eventually, I get back to them. Made a new rule, have to finish 2 projects before I can start another! Can't worry about unfinished items. Of course, a baby blanket might have a due date. In that case, better get to it!

RawKnitster, thanks for sharing your "power" smoothie. I can try it with my garden greens, I guess, as I haven't either the green superfood or the spirulina. It's similar to my smoothies. You remind me of my Grandmother, who had started sewing and knitting some baby things and never finished them and then, my Mum finished them for her, and gave them as presents. Hoorah for passing on the mac & cheese.

Well, I can see I'll have to ask someone at Whole Foods about the cacao. We have a converted Wild Oats and it's pretty small. They might not stock everything yet. And the baby blanket is just a project I started for something to keep my hands busy. I was going to donate it. I also did a set of booties and a hat to donate. Knitting is a way to keep my restlessness at bay, and I haven't felt too restless lately. Hmmm. Could it be the raw food???? ;)
