Day 1 (again) this close to 100%
Well, I caved to SAD last month after 23 days in the challenge when a lot of health issues (non-raw related) cropped up and just took kicked my butt. For the last few weeks that I have been eating SAD, I have actually felt a little bit worse, but I just found the SAD food so seductive that I didn't want to give it up. So, as I am still resolving the health issues with meds, rest, etc., I am going to get back on the wagon today. It was nice to pack all my sprouts, green smoothies, etc. and feel ready to take my uncooperative health/body head on.
I have been perusing some raw websites, and there seems to be much debate about the rawness of certain nuts. I just bought a bunch of cashews back from India and have decided to finish these off before I give up cashews too. I actually noticed that a few of the cashews had burnt edges on them, so it seems to support some comments that I have heard that heat may be used to extract the cashew from its shell (even though they are marked raw). It seems that all seeds are okay so I might stick to seeds, pinenuts and walnuts in recipes for now. Since almonds might be pasteurized soon, I was thinking of buying a bunch of raw almonds this week and freezing them to last until the raw world figures out how to get around the whole pasteurizing thing. What a bother that you have to hunt for health raw foods like this.
My only other concern is that due to these infections that I keep getting in my gastro system, my doc wants me to take this prescription probiotic that is made from dairy. I have tried other non-dairy sources for probiotics and I just can't seem to get better. I really want to kick these infections, but I feel like the non-raw dairy source would prevent me from realizing the health benefits of being 100% raw. It also looks like I might have to take up to 4 servings of this stuff a day so I feel like I am just blasting dairy into my body. Ugh! It is not a huge concern, since I can only do the best that I can. But, it seems frustrating to work so hard to be 100% raw and then the meds that are supposed to make you better might counteract the full potential of the raw food diet. Que sera, sera......
