Metamorphosis

Equal and Opposite Reaction

Rate this Entry
Every child learns this rule in science class: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. Yesterday was mostly about my emotional reactions to events out of my control. Today is about my reaction to yesterday, and maybe about some reactions or changes I'm feeling from becoming an organic raw foodist.

First change; I decided to take political action. I'm not going into reasons or persuasions here, suffice to say it is a reaction to events. I'm going to participate in voter registration drives. Regardless of how you vote, we need more voters in this country.

I did something else today that I've never done. I left the house wearing handknit socks, Birkenstock sandals, and a hand knit sweater. Talk about fashion DON'TS! It felt a little like leaving my house in pajamas, but I didn't care. I felt so free being me!

Went to an organic grocery, got some maca and micro greens. Went to the Farmer's Market. Got some nice bundles of young bok choy, and 2 kinds of kale. A handmade reversible cloth bag with "Eat Organic" embroidered on it caught my eye, and I thought, why not. I'm pampering myself and I deserve that.

Finally getting to the really good part. Found "dalene's Organic Raw Vegan Cuisine". It's a serve yourself restaurant and take out place in Kirkland, WA. They sell prepared food, as well as a few special ingredients, equipment (Excaliburs!), and offer food preparation classes & live food lifestyle education. They had Sunfood greek olives, cacao beans, and raw cashews, and more. I had a pleasant and helpful conversation with Dalene's partner, Diane, the "auzzie". She guided me through the menu choices. She talked about the initial transition into raw, how the crackers she makes got her past cravings for breads. She made suggestions for smoothies. Said that soft greens are best through the transition period, tougher greens may warrant taking enzyme supplements, at least initially. Also said it's important to vary your greens, as all greens have their own toxins. If you just use one type, those toxins can build up. Her favorite smoothie right now is spinach, apple, and cilantro. Sounds Good. I might try one tomorrow.

Your probably wondering about the food...did I buy any? Of course. After all, I'm pampering myself. I'm still buzzing from the high I got from lunch. Since it was so rich, I had just a few bites more for dinner along with my kale-celery-apple juice, with a side of maca and spirulina. I'm going to leave you wondering what I ate for lunch. Took some pictures! Will try to post them and give some details in the next day or two.

I want to mention one more thing I did today for the first time...tasted Kombucha tea. There is a quart in my fridge!

That wraps up this day. Pampering, new food experiences, meeting a raw educator and chef. Yes, it was a very good day.

What a day for you! I have kombucha mushrooms I can mail, if you're interested in brewing your own. I brew mine and it tastes better than the commercial ones. I've posted a detailed recipe for kombucha tea under "Raw Recipes." From the description of your day, you sounded like you've taken the raw thing a little closer to your heart.

Just out of curiosity, which way are the politics leaning ;)?

Congratulations on pampering yourself! It all sounds great! I agree with the tip to rotate the greens. Not just toxins, they have amino acids in different proportions apparently. Thanks for sharing a wonderful day with us!

Rawknitster! Your post made me smile today - I am so happy for you~I'm sorry about your day posted yesterday - I haven't gotten a chance to catch up - I was exhausted, but I'm glad it's going better. Could you post a picture of your bag too? It sounds neat. I'm going to go to my 1st ever farmer's market after I finish my tea. Again, I'm so happy you're doing special things just for you, because you deserve it! (((((hugs)))))

dakinimind, saw your posting on Kombucha, that's what peaked my interest. Bought a quart of dalene's brew for $10! Thank you for the offer to mail some. May take you up on that at a later date. Think dalene's teaches it in a class, might be a good idea for me, I'm a slow learner. As for my political leaning, it's more like a full tilt, same direction as you. Couldn't you tell? After all, I wear Birkenstocks!
