A Funny Thing Happened
A funny thing happened on the way to the market. Saw a delivery van for Gretchen's Shoebox Lunch. Twenty-five years ago, when Gretchen opened her first restaurant I often ate lunch there. Her chicken tarragon salad was really special. I'm stopped next to the van, so I pick up my phone and call the number. I'm thrilled to find out it is the same Gretchen, and she still makes her chicken tarragon salad. I assure the woman at Gretchen's that I will be checking the website, and I will be seeing her the next time it is on the menu. It was after I hung up that it hit me like a ton of flashbulbs...How could I possibly have forgotten, no matter how briefly, that I only eat live food! All I could do was laugh at myself.
At the Farmer's Market I talked with a new vendor that was selling Dim Sum. My daughter is always asking for it, so I got her an assortment. When I got home, she was thrilled with this surprise. I stood over her as she ate, asking how each item was before she could even finish chewing the first bite. She liked them all, except the humbow. There it was, in front of me, with only one bite taken out of it. I loved those! And it's so hard to find really good ones. I picked it up, sniffed it, poked it, smushed it, sniffed it again, AND...threw it in the trash, deep into the trash.
My diet for today was extremely raw:
Breakfast: half canteloupe
Lunch: small handful of macadamias
Dinner:Eat my words Green Smoothie
After dinner I went to "Knit Nite" at my favorite yarn shop. They serve special bites and treats. I glanced at them casually. Wasn't even tempted.
Late night snack: handful blueberries, raw chocolate-green food powder in 4 oz. hazelnut milk. My daughter gagged at the sight and smell, I thought it tasted like candy.
