Market Day
Friday is the day I go shopping. Been trying to use up everything in the house, almost did it. Finished off the lettuces last night for dinner. For lunch today I emptied all the veges out the fridge, sliced them up and made a cashew dill dip. Was surprised to find 2 bunches of dill stuffed in the back. Besides that, there was only some kale and citrus fruits left. Maybe I overshopped it a little bit last week, but not by much. I hope I didn't overdo it today. My favorite Farmer's Market is on Friday but doesn't start until next week (due to very unsunny spring weather). Went to Central Market, which is a huge grocery store about 5 miles from my house. The bulk food section is where I get nuts, seeds, spices, celtic sea salt, raw honey, and dried fruits. Today they had a vat of raw agave, got about 8 oz of it to try. There is a large asian section where I get sundried seaweeds and miso. Love the produce section...it's huge...it's where I get young coconuts, mangoes, papayas, exotic bananas, etc. Also can get strange items like turmeric root, burdock root, lemon grass etc., etc. Wanted to try a chermimoya but it was $4.98lb and the smallest weighed 2 lbs. Maybe for my birthday! After Central Market we (my daughter went with) went to Yakima Fruit Market. It's a fruit and vege stand that's open from March to Nov. As we were leaving my daughter asks me, "Why do you have to get so much when it's only a mile from home and you can come back anytime". I told her it's about having lots of different foods to chose from, and that I was glad she came with me so she could help me carry it into the house. My fridge is completely stuffed with fresh produce, my raw cupboard is full, and there are bowls of fruit on every surface in the kitchen...I guess you could say I'm committed to staying raw.
