...the Journey Continues...
Okay, so someone on the raw food forum posted a little youtube blurb about the body ecology diet. Thank you so much to whoever did that. I watched them all and bought the book and the cocobiotic drink - I totally identified with their leaky gut theory. Since the day I brought Zane home from the hospital we have both worried and cried with each bowel movement - if we were lucky enough to get one that day. His has had chronic constipation, though it seems to come and go, but it always comes back no matter what I feed him. Most of the time I don't do anything different and it still comes back.
So it's been about 5 or 6 days (I lose track) since we've had a bowel movement, which means when it finally comes it's not going to be pretty. I have resigned myself to start offering him herbal laxative tea at bedtime, hoping the involuntary peristalsis the tea causes will help to move things along. If we're going to detox him successfully, it has to find a way out.
There are a few patterns I've noticed with him...Always at a time like this, he doesn't eat - anything, except maybe a fig or a banana and Tings...or cookies, which I give into because I worry about him not eating anything and waking up in the middle of the night (which occurs all to regularly anyway and..I need sleep, so here, kiddo.. have a cookie then).
..and juice, he won't drink his juice concoction either - which means no way to get the nutrition or the supplements he so badly needs in him.
But, as soon as this passes, his appetite will come back and he'll desire the juice and other good foods again.
The brushing is going well...I swear it is making a huge difference. he is calmer, more attentive, more mellow, not humming so much - though he is still walking on his toes and grinding his teeth. He seems to have more patience too.
His preschool teacher asked me if I was working on his attending at home today because he had improved so much in the last few weeks! (so does that mean it's the brushing or the probiotics?? maybe both? or the chelation herbal supplement?? keep doing them all, I guess!)
I watched him at school today for about an hour...he loves to work and he loves his schedule. He is so proud of himself when he accomplishes a task, it's so cute.
He is making eye contact very well and seems interested in what other people are doing. Even the kids...he used to ignore the other kids in his class but now it is even more than simply tolerating them. He interacts in his own way - not quite there yet, but a definite improvement. The other day in circle time he allowed another little boy to hold his hand while they sang their last song. I was so proud of him!
