Aloha from Hawaii

Aloha ... I'm a bit confused on how to use this blogging stuff -- I tried yesterday - but I think I ended up posting in an area that I wasn't supposed to. Aaaand... I'm still not sure if I'm doing this right!
I am a newbie and I've joined the April - 30 day challenge.
I've battled with my weight for years - up down - up down, and like many other people - tried every diet in the world only to fail...
I believe Spirit (God) led me to find Alissa's website. I was searching for a way to get healthy and lose weight... and well... here I am. I was so impressed with the before and after photos on her website. It peaked a curiosity in me to do some additional research on this 'raw food thing'. I liked what I read, and actually I've been checking Alissa's site out since January 2007.
I saved up enough money to finally get Alissa's book and a dehydrator, but when I called, it was suggested that I also get the DVD... and I thought - well, why not - I can manage a couple more dollars. I am SO GLAD and grateful that this was suggested to be because my husband watched the DVD with me. He isn't too fond of reading - but because I was in the middle of watching the DVD when he got home from work - he sat down and started watching too. When he saw the before and after photos at the end of the DVD, he looked at me and said... "You ARE GOING TO DO THIS AREN'T YOU??"
and I smiled and said "YES!" and he said -- "Okay - I'm in too. I'll support you all the way - whatever you need to get - what ever you need to do - we'll do it together!"
I am so blessed! Although he doesn't need to lose weight and is in fantastic shape - I really appreciate his support.
We are following the plan in Alissa's book. And oh my goodness... the food is delicious - and ABUNDANT! We can't eat it all - it's too much food!! We are so full and satisfied at the end of our meals. Each day is exciting - even if we are only on day 3!!
As far as who I am... I am a 50 year old Hawaiian. I have 4 children (2 sons and 2 daughters) and 5 grandchildren (all boys...!!) I live on the Big Island of Hawaii where fruit is abundant, the avocados are HUGE and taste like butery pistachios... and papayas, mangos, apple bananas, and coconuts are growing on the trees right outside my kitchen window! Great place to be a raw foodie!!
As far as weight - I am 5'2" and I weigh 168 pounds. (whew - kinda big huh?!) I'll post my before pictures as soon as that link is available. I didn't take any measurements though.
Is there anyone else out there from Hawaii ??
If not - I'm still glad to be a part of Alissa's Raw food Ohana (family!)
