Some authors have their raw food books available as e-books and you can download them. For example, The Garden Diet's books are available as ebooks.

I agree with you. doing our own research on ourselve seems like the way!

I'll try to take it slow and not rush into extreme solutions :)

    Ahlan! :)

I can't get my hands on raw books in Egypt... and I can't afford shipping them here.

However the problem with raw books, is that the authors will justify everything to make his views sound 100% right, based on "theis experience" with "their" bodies... not ours.

Thanks for the advice on tracking my food... I'm doing this already in another site.

thank you for your advice. I'm working on my paranoia :)

I second Matt's thoughs about not knowing about nutrition. I mean, most of us don't, we just want to feel better, and so we believe what people say, because let's face it, we don't do our own research. We rely on the research of 'experts.'

The only way we CAN do our own research is to use ourselves, our individual selves, as guinea pigs. And what works for one person may not work for you. And research does not mean deciding what you believe and then finding 'experts' who agree with you! In fact, it's just sites like the beyond veg site that are important to factor in when you are doing research. Who are the cautious ones, the naysayers? They have relevance to our search for the truth, just as the pro raw foodists do.

I have to say it really bothers me when people come on to raw food sites such as this and start telling people that so and so says this or that and this is how raw should be. Most of them have only been raw for about 10 minutes anyway !! And they are the types who only use pro raw foodists in their 'research.' That to me is not research.

    ahlan!
Part of the reason it all gets so confusing is because at the end of the day we actually don't know all that much about nutrition. If you can get your hands on some raw books, I think they will help you feel like you at least know what is going on with your own diet. Do you have Alissa Cohen's book? She talks in it a lot about protein and her own experiences as a body builder and what she eats. The China Study is one of the best researched books on nutrition, plant based food as opposed to animal proteins and the way they impact the body.
if you are concerned about getting enough nutrients, I would highly recommend that you track your foods on a website like fitday.com -- it will show you just how well you are actually doing.
Lastly, as far as beyondveg.com is concerned, I think they raise some valid points--there are some nutjobs out there in the raw food world. Use your own sense and listen to your body as well as examining your health. How do you feel? Are you showing signs of poor health? or the opposite? It also seems to me that much of the critique on the website is against eating a fruitarian diet. Well, more and more raw foodists seem to be encouraging consumption of leafy greens not just fruit.
Don't panic, it's a learning curve and you'll figure out where it is that works best for you.

You made a very strong statement in your blog..."I want to get rid of the feelings of guilt and hatred between me and food." I think many people are going through similar relationships with food. I struggle every day with food choices and how much I eat, and it is my goal, through eating raw, to get to a point where my body tells me when I'm full and what it needs to be nourished.

Good luck with your healthy lifestyle! My sister is a recovering bulemic, and although recovery takes some work, you can do it! Best wishes to you!
