  1. Back in the Saddle

A much better day. Had raw oatmeal for breakfast at 10 a.m. It’s now 2 p.m. and I’m still working on a green smoothie. Voila—not hungry again.

It’s a roller-coaster ride of victory/defeat/victory/defeat etc. For instance, that vibrant feeling associated with raw, believe it or not, is not yet always desirable for me. This is so because I frequently choose food to dampen sensations and emotions (i.e., stuffing my feelings). A green smoothie won’t do that, but a mammoth-sized portion ...

  2. I've fallen and I can't get up

I did well temporarily but have fallen off the wagon with a loud thump. My junk food issues are a constant source of struggle. After a pretty successful weekend, I went hog-wild yesterday. It was truly disgusting and morally repugnant.

Last night I bought three bags of fruit and vegetables and prepared a blender full of green smoothie for this morning. I’ve read several testimonials that green smoothies wipe out cravings for unhealthy/cooked food. Mine contained organic spinach, organic ...

  3. Chapter VI

You’ve probably seen this before, but it’s worth repeating:

Autobiography in Five Short Chapters--By Portia Nelson

I walk down the street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I fall in.

    II
I walk down the same street. There is a deep hole in the sidewalk. I pretend I don't see it. I fall in again. I can't believe I am in the same place, but
    ...

  4. Yep—Raw Is Different!

When I got home last night, my package from Alissa Cohen awaited me. It included her book and CD, sea salt, oats, a spiralizer and a box of Raw Crunch bars. Well, the food addict in me dove into that box of Raw Crunch; I’m embarrassed to say how many I devoured then and later at 5 a.m.

I know many rawbies wouldn’t sweat eating all those bars, because the bars are all raw. But as a recovering compulsive eater, I must be vigilant about indulging in addictive behavior. Even if a particular ...

  5. Just for today: feeling confident

With yesterday's new weight, I'm in a good place. Don't know if it's my imagination, but it seems I'm sleeping better.

For me, this lifestyle is about self-respect. Do I think well enough of myself to make healthy choices? So far, the answer most frequently is "yes."

As the holidays approach, I have misgivings. Don't know how well I'll manage. From Thanksgiving into the New Year, the office is awash in goodies of all kinds. I make a habit of taking off Christmas ...
