So far I have been just having fruit and salads. I seem to keep having the same salad over and over because it's so yummy though, lol.

LOTS of greens, preferably not all/any iceberg lettuce
    a tomato
    an apple
    some cucumber slices
    some green onion/regular onion
    a full avocado
maybe a dash of olive oil
    a good amount of salt
...sometimes some garlic powder, or chipotle powder, or pepper, or fresh chives or fresh basil, a handful of seeds

    YUMMMMMY

Thanks for sharing. What has been your approach to raw recipes? Do you make something based on an old favorite? or do you try something new?

Take a look on the sauce for kelp noodles thread. I linked to the basic recipe there. The sundried toms need to be good quality and not too soaked. Definitely sling the soak water. Don't use ones already in oil. Use fresh herbs not dried.

honey...hmmm. I don't think I have used honey. So you're saying you have a perfect marinara sauce?

For mine, it has something to do with the sundried tomatoes...I was going to drain the water/salt off of them after soaking...and then experiment with the perfect amount. Was also considering buying better SDT's too though..ones with no sulphites or salt..something more pure. But that's as far as I got before I just bailed off the wagon and went for real spaghetti sauce. When I think of the cooked stuff, nothing compares for me...yet. I also think some marinated dehydrated/warmed small, whole mushrooms would be divine...as they are in the cooked.

It can be so fun to tinker and tweek and can quickly become a passion. But sometimes, when life gets busy, it just gets too much to learn. That's why I am thinking more and more that it would be better to just learn more recipes without any pressure of needing to feed myself out of it...and then once my knowledge level is really high, I could easily go really high raw and not sweat the learning part.

I remember now that I used honey in the $10 a day marinara sauce.

lol...here is the problem though...I have eaten exclusively raw for a couple of months at a time...I am really quite good at making smoothies for example..and breads...and salads...and dips. Of what I know...but I am not that great at marinara and I have tried Countless recipes for it and come up disappointed everytime. And I just keep eating my favorite stuff, because I know I'll like it and not have to waste it or my time and money...It truly gets frustrating for me very quickly when I have to throw something out, because not only do I then have a whack of dishes (and with 7 people in the house, I do dishes constantly as it is) but I am down a lot of money and I'm still hungry and then I have to go and make something else or choke it down anyway.

I am quite picky maybe...like whenever I go to the local raw vegan restaurant, almost Everything I have tried, I have said, 'I can make this better myself' and it's true.
It's a year long...I don't know! I think I want to do it...plus you can also opt in for teacher training for it and that would be fun...the local rv restaurant held a course recently and I was thinking of going but they literally are only teaching you what the appliances are and how to use them. ...LAME. It would be too funny in a way to start running the classes and teach people how to make better food.
But I DO digress...I have other plans with my life anyway. I feel like I'm convincing you to let me take the course, lol...I may or may not, I have no idea. We will see how much I have left out of my paycheck I guess. :)

there is a perfect marinara sauce on "raw on $10 a day or less". You could also do quite a lot of trial and error with that $300 and you'd produce at least 50% recipes that worked really well. You'd also learn which things work well and which don't so as you "trialled and errored" more, your mistakes would become fewer and your abilities in the raw kitchen would soar which in turn would mean that you'd be able to follow no recipe at all with the ingredients you had in the house rather than looking for a recipe that fitted your ingredients and saying it can't be done so then eating non-raw!

You don't have to spend money to make something work. A gym membership and a pair of running shoes does not make you fit. A $300.00 course won't make you raw.

You can do this yourself... you really can :)

Good on you for your positive reaction to her comment. Some people feel so insecure in themselves that they try to make others feel as bad about themselves as they do.

As to the spam in here . . . nothing a limit on newbie members would't solve.

Checked out her site and I recognise her from youtube I think. Lots of info and very bubbly. Thanks for the memory jog.

    ..how far I've fallen :/

Good luck with it all. I can't imagine eating as little as two pieces of fruit a day.

Honestly...whatever progress I made, I feel it slipping away...not lost, but I don't feel momentum and I don't feel like whatever habits new I had built up are still habits...I feel back to just making choices in the moment...sometimes good, sometimes poor.
I went to a local raw vegan restaurant today and had lunch with my daughter which is always nice. It's funny because everytime I go there I think 'hmmm, tasty, good, healthy, but I could actually have made this better' lol! It's inspiring in that sense, haha.
...but then, I literally had chocolate for breakfast and and more later...pizza for supper, chips and dip. Like...it adds up, just one choice at a time, good or bad. I honestly, sometimes, feel so beaten down by doing a) trying to go all raw, b) opting for counting calories instead, c) opting to make baby step changes ...it really doesn't seem to matter what I decide to do, I can't freaking sustain anything. At all. It's really annoying.

My counsellor (who specializes in eating issues) said I need to read the book 'The Art of Extreme Self Care' and discussing ways to incorporate making self care a priority, even if in only 5 minute chunks...honestly, I do feel pretty overwhelmed with all my goals and stuff, but also optimistic as I only have ten days of placement left and a summer that looks pretty balanced. I am really trying to make things more balanced as far as incorporating more self care. I don't know if this is my 'root' problem...or whatever.

So tomorrow is a new day...and in a nutshell, I have no idea what I'm doing, lol. ...guess I will just try and make the best choices as I can and minimize that not so good ones until I can ...well, do better, have more whatever...lol. gah.

Bananna - every BODY, MIND, and SPIRIT are different - listen to yours. I commend you for knowing where you are at currently in your program. Does that absolutely mean you won't be 100% raw some day? Does it mean you may not want to? Who knows? You'll find out - in the meantime be good to yourself:)
  16. MysticTree's Avatar
Yeah. The only way to be raw is to be raw. It's the easiest way too ;)

Well said and well timed Mystic. I have been totally having trouble....pushing the envelope with it and the last few days haven't been that great. Not sure where to go from here....every time I look in the mirror I want to go all raw immediately. But when I leave the mirror and see all this food everywhere it becomes a very daunting prospect. I am going to just have a smoothie for breakfast....I know that if I walk the walk it will become easier.

I think the key word in your main post is "permenant". It's. A tricky thing to get right.

Well, I suppose my standards of normal chocolate eating, are probably still fairly high...but compared to where it was before, I have cut it by 75% which I never thought I could moderate it...it still feels very tentative in a sense...a new habit, you know, but it is going well and I'm committed to it.

On your idea, of cutting it out entirely, my counsellor said that that can be beneficial to do for a time and that you can reintroduce it after awhile in increments. I did this with ice cream which went well...and Doritos...quit them for a good long time, months and months. Now I have no issue with just having a spoonful of ice cream or a handful of Doritos (from a ration point of view, not from a health point of view, lol). It is possible to do that is my point. But those and diet coke are garbage food really...best if you steer clear amap or entirely. ..but whatever lasting progress we can make right? :)

I don't think I can ever eat chocolate really rationally. Last year I gave up diet coke. I haven't had any since end April 2011. I can cut down on chocolate but even my cut down rate is huge! This year I may give up chocolate as I have done for diet coke. I am including some support foods as you call them. I like that term. I'm glad you are staying on the forum. I like your posts.
