what about yellow squash? I've used yellow squash as my angel hair pasta b4 and it was delicious! I've also seen recipes where yellow beet (or red beet) was used... that sounds interesting! also the best way I've found to get the water out of the zuchinni or squash - wrap it like a burrito in papertowes and change the towels occassionally. I do this 1 hr b4 I eat!

I have Ani's uncook book. I haven't been tried any of them yet, because I've been using other recipes. Now I will try some!

Can I suggest putting a thermometer in the dehydrator? I have an Excalibur, and even though it has a temperature control, it is off by 10-15%. (On the lower end of the scale, which means it was taking longer to dehydrate everything).

Oh, I remember the hand-crank ones... with the giant rock salt! We've got a Cuisinart from our wedding. I think you can pick them up at Target or any home goods kinda store. It makes ice cream in about 20 minutes. Its really cool :-)

StarBuck - is your ice cream maker a electric gizmo? I know that probably sounds funny - but - well 'back in the day' our ice cream makers were turned by a hand crank.... ooookay - I think I just dated myself there!!! ;) are they expensive? and where can you get such a contraption??
  11. Starbuck's Avatar
Oh, i forgot a step. Be sure to strain the mixture before putting it into the freezer to chill. Otherwise, you're going to have loads of seeds and petals in the ice cream.

I'm eating it right now. It is AMAZING! I think I would use more blackberries and less lavender. I can't really taste the blackberries, to be honest. However, I love it anyway.

The rest of the day ended up with my having eaten many fudge balls, too many strips of fruit leather, one sweet and salty cookie, a delicious and filling salad, 2 cups of coffee with cream (Grumpf!), and a small helping of Spanish rice. I've done better on the water.

I ate poorly today because I was bored... well, busy, but bored. Will do better tomorrow.

I saw Victoria Boutenko basically shredding dikon with a food processor. I was thinking about trying that. I really didn't like the feeling of the pasta in my stomach.
