I am planning to start a fast on march1 (that starts lent) for 40 days. This is for internal and spirital cleanse. More prayer and less TV and other things not good for the soul. So I am doing research of the best type of fast. I want to get rid of the rest of this obese fat. Does any one have any suggestion. Does any one want to join me then? I am trying to understand the master clean, will go to their web site as I see many of you doing this program.

I'm glad you posted this. I was going to do the same thing.

I'm not doing it for religious reasons but I will have been on raw for 2 weeks and I need a serious detox so I'd like to do it with you. I'm going to go for water, with juice 3 times a week on the days I have long meetings. At least that's the plan. We'll see what happens!

I have been thinking the same thing. I want to do it for cleansing and also for spirtual reasons. I will focus on less stress in my life.
Quick question....my hesistancy is that I will be starting a new part time job in March....what do I tell my co-workers? Or should I just say the truth and hope that noone thinks I am "weird".
What do you guys plan on telling your co-workers?
I will also do some research....I'm thinking juice fasting with water fasting in between.

I would think that you wouldn't have to explain at all. Just bring your water and juice to work. You'll get more work time out of it by not having to stop to eat or having to go out. Or perhaps say you just prefer not to eat at work.

Wow. I'll join you, perhaps not for 40 days though, I'm not a experienced in fasting, have only done it for 3 days twice. It's a nice idea for Lent, however, I would like to do it for just 6 days, perhaps.
I was thinking of Juice & water, I am also going to do some research before February ends and get myself ready. I would love to get good advice from experienced people who have fasted long-term, or even short term, as long as they know what they're talking about.

I read that as far as food goes for fasting during lent
you are allowed one meal and 2 snacks
and there a a whole bunch of food s to abstain from the daniel's diet? strictest one is
no food or drinks exccept for bread water juice honey and nuts

I would like to do this of course
I did a fast and got till day 9 just weeks ago

I am still vegan now so I 've been eating bread and tofu and such I'm not sure how to go about this fast though i've been wanting to do a liver ccleanse for a bout a week but haven't been able to

So when you fast for 40 days
what will you do just drink all juces and water and eat dehydrated bread?

I don't want to eat any bread during the fast i would love to follow it except for the bread and honey part

But i was thinking of having salads, i guess that's out of the picture though, but how will i just survive on juice and nuts and water for 40 days though if my will power actually could survive it would my body be able to?

Hi everyone, I am excited that so many will be joining me on 3/1. I started gathering information about fasting for physical and spiritial benefit and found a web site with some good information to understand the purpose of fasting and what happens to the body during fasting: http://www.freedomyou.com. There are many different sub topic about fasting on the left side bar.

I will be doing my fast as follows: week 1=3 day juice then 2 day water

week2=5 day juice then 3day water; week 3,4,=juice on work days water on week

ends. week 5=water; day 35=juice; day 40 juice+1 raw meal, day 41 back to raw.

If someone with more experience see any problem with this schedule let me know. My thinking was because I work in a very physical demanding and stressful job this may help keep me on the fast. I also plan to fill my extra time with pray since it does not take long to drink juice or water. I plan on telling my family and co-workers what I am doing, if they ask. It is best to not draw attention to your self when you are seeking spiritual benefits. attention from people can draw negative reaction producing stress which is not what you are seeking when you fast, but I will be honest if they ask.

Jenjen-my previous fast has been bread and water and that is very difficult because I always over ate. That was before my raw days. I will drink my juice for my allowed 1 meals and 2 snacks ( I will have to look that up again). If you are having a lot of detox symptoms it is best if you drink your juice even if it is more often and of course keep the water flowing.

Also don't forget alms giving during lent. Prayer, fasting , alms giving. This can be with your time and talent not just money to the poor. So you all see where I am going with this but I am not a expert on the spitual part just wish to grow more. So unless someone ask I will only talk about what is going on with the fast physically on this board. dreamrawalwz, Levamd1, kiwilime, Sunchild, jenjenn looking forward to sharing with you our fasting experiences and supporting each other.

I fasted three times in my life,

once was a water only 3 day fast, didn't work well at all, lots of cravings, actually passed out twice, and felt terrible

then once for a couple of days, just wasn't hungry, drank only about 1/2 cup of water the two days, I wasn't feeling well, slept almost the entire time

then once for one month, only had fresh melon about 1/2 honeydew each day, up to 1 cup of water, it was more of a mono diet, but melon is mostly water, so I count it as a fast, that worked really well for me,
but only the first one was planned, the other two were what I wanted to eat, or not eat.

I have read alot about fasting, and the good things about it, and the not so good things about it.

I think anyone going on a fast for more than 3 days should go on a supervised fast by professionals, I say this, because even then, people have died on fasts.

now the reason they have died or had other challnges, is because they drank only water or only fruit juice.

And what happens is this, your body starts to detox, and it does a great job of it, but it has no fiber in the intestines to move the toxins through your body, so they sit inthe colon, and are reabsorbed into the body, not a good thing.

Also, you can get very constipated on a water or juice only fast, unless you are taking psyllum husk, so why not just eat the fruit instead? and get your fiber that way?

anyway, this is what I've heard, read and experienced, I think every person should do what works for them, and each person has different challenges and body issues, so if you feel great on a fast, that is several days long, go for it,

but if you listen to the raw gurus, they will tell you fasting one day a week is the best for your body, or maybe a 3 day fast every month or so,

MOST of the ones, I've talked to have done one or two fasts, but only a couple have done really long term fasting, and they did it with vegetable juices, not fruit juices, and they did it with psyllum husk in a fasting retreat center.

Remember when you fast, the point is to REST, not to work, you really might think about takin time off of work to rest, and to sleep and to detox, and to allow your body to heal, that is what fasting is all about.

good luck to you in whatever your choices are.

Vandy

Wow! I am excited to find this thread! A Lent fast was something I have been planning since last year. I was also planning on making it a very spiritual time as well, and just use it as a wonderful growth tool (in every aspect of my life).

When I started researching before, I noticed that Lent isn't 40 days it's actually longer because the 40 days doesn't include Sundays. I want to do the master cleanse (I have done it before several times, and I love the way it makes me feel) but I will try to follow my body's lead and have just water when that is what my body asks and other juices when that is what I need.

I do agree with rawpriestess in that we don't need to let toxins accumulate in our colon. However, I plan on taking senna, psylium, or doing enemas (perhaps I will start colonics during this time--always wanted to try). But most of all, I will be aware of my body and patient with it while finding the solution that works best at all different times of the fast.

If anyone uses Christianity as a part of their spiritual life, I found a great site for daily devotionals (I found it before and was going to save it for Lent, but I just re-checked it to make sure it worked before I put it on here, and it isn't just for Lent anymore, it's everyday). Anyway, thought I'd pass that along...

Thank raw princess for the warning. Yes I do plan on keeping my colon open with the above mentioned methods. That is way it is very important to do your research before doing anything.

Thanks b_light for the web site. I will check it out.

I feel I must respond. I too have thought about fasting this Lent, but am trying to seek exactly what that fast should be. Fasting is not just doing without food. There are all kinds of fast, maybe the best you can do is juice every other day. Or just for breakfast. Or do without all sweets (fruit) or snacks, or nuts, etc. Or do without all SAD foods! Or do daily green smoothies. The main idea and goal is to listen to your body and your God.

I did a 21 day fast this past year. I felt drawn to do it. It was all juices, veggie and fruit. I made it to day 21. But I also came down with candida. So warnings!!! Don't overdo the sweet drinks!!! Candida is not fun. I am still battling it. All I can figure is that I managed to get my body really clean and now it really protest when I allow anything non-raw.

Another warning, no matter how far you make it, be it 1 day or 40 days, slowly add real foods. Do more research! You must s-l-o-w-l-y add whole foods, like maybe 1 fruit and still juices all day for the first day. Do your research. STudy!!! This really is serious business.

For me, I'm thinking I will do Dr. Gabriel Cousen's mycotoxin-free and candida-free diet. Yes, that involves eating real foods, but very restricting. Restricting one's intake, no matter how severe, is considered fasting. I do not look forward to this fast, as I love sweet fruits and none are allowed. It will be hard. It will be a sacrifice. I will need to pray my way through it. And it will be worth it!

My final advice -- find some quiet time for yourself. Pray and ask the one who created you what is the best way for you to do this internal cleanse. Take more time and listen. Then follow that internal instinct you get.

Blessings! BD

Just wanted to say that I am still leaning toward doing this fast. I have done some juice fasting in the past. I have never done a water fast. My plan is to do a juice fast.....as I feel a water fast may be too hard for me to do.
I have done alot of research lately to prepare for March 1st. I'm doing this for some health reasons, but more importantly for me I feel God wants me to do this. This is something that I know will not be easy to do and I will need to lean on God and support from all of you to do this. I'm excited but I am getting a little scared. Maybe its "fear" sinking in. I will pray about this and I will do what God Leads me to do.
I want to thank everyone for speaking their concerns. I will research more and I know based on history that I don't know how to break a fast appropriately. I will continue to study and prepare as much as possible.
Who is still planning on fasting????

jenjenn

I'm still planning on it

I've been having mad food cravings lately and lent I feel is and will be the only way I will overcome them.

Leelocs
So how much do you think you will lose. I would be happy to lose weight, I know i ould lose alot, but that would not be my main reason for doing it.
Also I'm nervous about losing too much weight and having no energy and passing out. I did a fast for 9 days and started at 124 and got to 112.5 by day 7 or 8! You can see it in my journal. Are you giong to keep a Lent journal here?

Also what are you going to do between day 35 and day 40?

leeleelocs
02-22-2006, 11:54 PM
Day 35-40 I will do veg juice with a little fruit juice for flavor. I only plan on loosing no more that 10 lbs. I am doing this more for spirital growth, healing and internal cleanse. I think this fasting journal should be according to what your body is telling you, If you can't go the full length of time that is ok. You don't want to hurt your self. You can do the fast that is best for you. I agree with Bdraw, for some giving up one meal a day will be a great fast, or drinking just veg. juice or giving up TV will be a fast. The point is you are becoming less self centered and more self giving, and loving. I will journal again, I had stoped after my 30 day challenge but see the benifits of continuing. I am still doing my research on fasting.

What about a green fast, in which you only eat greens and green juices? It seems that might be really good, as you still get lots of fiber. Maybe that would work for an alternative to the water fast.

Hey JenJenn.....I have been having mad food cravings too....That is one of the many reasons I feel I need to fast. I have been eating horribly.

I was soooo sleepy last night. But I remember my last thought before I went to bed I asked god If I should fast???? Please give me a sign that will allow me to commit to this fast.

I dreamt that I was flying...it was so awesome...I was flying fast and hard and I was going thru amazing clouds and I was reaching heaven....I was almost there......I start to shout..."I'm coming"..."I'm almost there"...over and over again then I woke up right when I was inches away from seeing Heaven.
I don't know what the dream means. But I feel it is telling me it is OK for me to go on this juice fast.

Anyone else have dreams prior to this fast?

Okay everyone I'm getting so excited for Lent, as well as nervious, and anxious too!

I am trying to figure out how exactly I'm going to go about the whole thing.

I know myself very well when it comes to food and I am almost 100% positive that I will not be able to go a full 40 days without foods that I like such as bread, tons of food at once, and eating before 12 pm and after 6pm. So a major goal during this time is to,if and when I fail to not beat myself up over it and continue as if it never happened or it was just a slip move on go foward and continue on the rest of the remaining days.

With that being said my goals during this time: Are to give up foods that I like and want in order to hear what god is telling me.
My goals are to:

Not consume any solid foods before 12am

Not consume any foods after 6pm.

eat or drink juice every 2-4 hours between 7 am till 6pm(however this is partly where I'm trying to figuere out which fast I'm going to do or how I will combine them

The ones I'm having a hard time figuring out which will be right for me are:

water fast
juice fast
salads, fruits, juices, veggies
salads, fruits, juices, veggies, nuts, and oils
salads, fruits, juices, veggies, nuts, oils, and bread(because in Daniel's fast I beileve youre allowed to eat bread, water, honey, nuts, and fruit juice)

I really would like to get through the 40 days without any bread however because I know that once food I like is ingested I get bigger cravings for such foods and have a hard time breaking free from eating what I want even if I don't really (psychially) want to eat it (for some I know you will totally understand what I mean but for the others who don't just ask and I will explain) This is what I hope will wane over lent.

So 2 more days and I still haven't gone shopping I just want to see what ideas any of you might have.

Have any of you participated in Lent before?

As far as dreams that I'm having right now I will try to post tommorrow if I can remember mine.

I was planning on water fasting for Lent, but I have adding some tea, juice and some broth because my body was feel so horrible. I actually started on 2/21/06 and I am on my 7 day of my fast. My body has been aching a lot and my stomach is very sour at times, but I am hanging in there for the Lord. I have been praying for strength as well as this fast to purify me so I might be closer to him. I have been keeping a journal during this time so I can see my progress as well as jot down my thoughts to God.

This is very new to me since I have never fasted this long, but I am very excited about it. I went to Walmart on Saturday and I was really worried that the food would make me break my fast but it didn't. I had no desire to eat solid food, but the smells were glorious to behold.

I think I am detoxing very heavily since I don't eat such a healthy diet at times. I ache and It seems I can feel very organ in my body working. My stomache, my intestines and my heart beating so loudly at times. I have got a huge headache so far but that was from crying about something, which I knew that I would get one. I have had chills, with adominal pain, and got sick to my stomach but they went away after I soaked in a hot tub and did a body brush of myself. I feel much better now, but I wonder if I will have many more bouts like that.

I really wanted to do a total water fast but I think it would be to stressful on my body so I am making juice and having it every couple days when I can seem to get my energy and cope with just water. I am planning on going full Juice a week and a half before Easter so I can have a bit of solid food on Easter Sunday if all things go well. As well as change my diet to only have meat one day a week and fish one day a week and all the rest veggies and fruits. I have bought a Veggie Life magazine and all the food looks delious so I am sure I can keep to a primary veggie diet.

2 years ago for Lent, I gave up all junk food for Lent, which the first 2 weeks was the hardest, but I got passed it. What was more amazing was that I lost 34 pounds in 40 day! And I am not considered heavy at all, so I was so surprized on how just eating health changed my life and I did it all for the Lord.

I hope everyone does well on their fast as well as I hope to acomplish mine. But I know if I fail, God still knows that I tried to do this for Him

Sacristia I understand day 5-7 is really heavy detox days so hang in there, What type of broth are you doing?

I am so excited about everyone who will be fasting for Lent. just think of all the prayers going up to heaven.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 1 more day to go Keep your self hydrated with pure water. I understand the fist week will be the worst so hang in there especially day 5-7. Try to use organic fruit and veg. so that you will heal and clean your body with clean fuel.

Tommorrow is FAT Tuesday so everyone will be feasting on SAD (standard american diet) and BAD(black american diet) FOOD. So far I have keep 100% RAW but tommorrow will be the real test.

See you all on the other side!!!!!

I haven't read every single post in this thread, so if someone has already made the point that I'm making...forgive me.

I see a lot of things wrong with the way these fasts are being planned. leelee, you cannot fast for 40 days and then eat food. Not even raw food. Not even a raw meal. Not even an apple. You can actually have a heart attack and die that way. If you're not experienced with fasting, then a 40 day fast is actually a terrible idea. There are far too many things to consider, and even more things that one just needs to know and understand before jumping into a 40 day fast. I understand your need for health, respect your need for deeper spirituality, and your desire for losing weight. However, jumping into any fast without the proper information can be extremely dangerous.

To fast for any significant amount of time (over 3 days) means you are shutting down your digestive system. To wake it back up with a meal of any sort - even raw - can over stress it and cause you to have a heart attack and die. I'm all for fasting, but please take the time out to truly research it before you jump into it so that you can do it safely.

To do a water fast is a very big deal, honestly. It means you're depriving your body of all nutrition. To do it for 40 days really requires some experience and a whole lot of knowledge about what your body is going to go through - as well as your mind - and what signs to look for that may be indications to stop what you're doing. When you're on a water fast, you aren't even supposed to work. You aren't supposed to run around and live your life like normal. You're supposed to be at rest during a water fast because it's way too easy to hurt yourself when you're receiving no nutrition at all.

To do any sort of fast, be it water or juice...you have to ease back into eating very slowly. The first day(s) (the number of days for each stage depends entirely on how long you've fasted) you are only to introduce juice with pulp at specific time intervals, for a set amount of time before moving onto the next small step of reintroducing food. There are certain foods - even raw ones - that you can't introduce until (after a 40 day fast) a few weeks after ending the fast. You work very slowly up to things like salad. It's just not as simple as drinking water and juice for 40 days and then having a meal of any sort. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE do some very good research on this subject before actually practicing it.

There is a book called Juice Fasting and Detoxification by Steve Meyerowitz. You can get it on amazon for around $10. It talks mostly about juice fasting, but does get into water fasting just a bit. Also, try looking at bragg.com to see what books they may have to offer on water fasting. Shop around. Do your research. Protect yourself, please. I admire all that any type of fast has to offer, but it's very important to know what you're doing and what to expect before you start one. The detox symptoms are unlike any that you'll experience by being on a raw diet. TRUE hunger (starvation - not just cravings) can set in at any time and you have to know what that means and what to look for, as well as how to handle it. You have to rest. You really should do much much shorter fasts so that you can learn more about your body because not every persons body can handle the same things...even when it comes to fasts. Where one person can knock out a 30 day water fast like a champ, there are some who just can't do 30 day fasts at all. These are things you have to know, so again...please take the time to research it. If you wanna do something extra for lent, maybe you should check out a muuuuch shorter fast (like 5-7 days) and tighten up your eating for the rest of the time. I don't know...just reading your plan makes me feel very worried. Please get some books. Good luck.
Good luck.

Leeleelocs,

I had a small cup of low sodium chicken broth, which I think was what made me ill. I think it was too heavy for my system. When I was heating it up, I was wondering if I should even being drinking it. I think I am detox still. I haven't been able to find any articles about what some of the signs are and how long. I have noticed that my urine is very foul smelling and my tounge is coated white in the morning. I know that is a sign of detoxing.

I am currently on my 8th day of fasting. I sleep really good last night and I had a lot of energy during the day.

I bought 3 fasting books so I am sure that I am not going to be very interesting in them once they come since I am past my 3rd day mark when my hungry pains went away. When I had them, I was always concentrating on what I could learn to make it easier for me to get throught this.

I have started collecting health veggie recipes in a notebook so I have a bunch of them to make once I get off my fast. I am also planning on making a weekly menu for myself so I can follow this healthly lifestyle easier if I have an idea what I should be making for dinner and such. I have decide to only have meat once night a week and fish one night a week and the rest of them will be veggies. I am really really excited about this.

I noticed this morning that I must have lost some weight in my fingers because I can fit my diamond on right hand middle finger and it just falls off my ring finger now!

I feel really good and my energy is good and my mind is clear.

Shmoopie, I know that you can't jump into just eating solid foods after a fast. What Leeleelocs was talking about was eating raw foods before the fast to help jump start the detox that will be taking place. It is suppose to help you get into your fast.

I hope as well that people have read up on this subject and know of its dangers. I have read a lot and prayed a lot about it as well, so I am taking this very seriously.

I have already planned on steady juice for a week and a half to two weeks before Easter so I might be able to have something very light on Easter Sunday. I might just start heavy juicing after Easter and not eat on Easter at all. I really haved made the finally decision but I know either way, I have to heavily juice before I can eat anything solid. I have to jump start my digestive system again.

Then again, I don't know if I can make it to Easter. So far I have been doing very well, but maybe at 21 days or 14 days, I am told by the Lord to break my fast, so right now I am just taking it day by day with the Lord's help.

I hope this calms some of your fears, at least for me, Shmoopie. But thank you for your concern

Sacristia -

What concerned me was when she made a post showing her intake plan for the 40 days. This is the part that really worried me, and is what prompted me to post:
"day 35=juice; day 40 juice+1 raw meal, day 41 back to raw."

I am glad to hear that you are planning a safe fast. I hope the same for everyone else.

I am so excited to start my "fast" tomorrow (I have decided to start with smoothies/green smoothies so I can keep all the fiber--it isn't really a fast but it will be a sacrifice, and I feel more confident with its safety).

Good luck to everyone starting any type of fast tomorrow!

I am so excited that I have made it this far on my fast. Yesterday I had 7 oz of veggie juice because I was feeling very low and I think my body need a big boost, but I drank 72 ozs of water with lemon.

My moods have been coming and going especially when I can feel my stomach and intestines moving and doing something. I haven't had a sour stomach in a couple days, but I heard if I add a little apple cider vineagar to some water, it will help me with that.

I still haven't gotten my fasting book by Paula White yet. I ordered it on 21st of February and it said that it would take 4 days! But the time I get it I wouldn't be so interested in reading it.(joking!)

I weighted myself this morning because some of my clothing felt loose, and found out that I lost 10 pounds already! I have to becareful of that since I am not very big to begin with. I was 145, but now I am 135, which is a little bit nice but I don't want to go too far and get ill.

This thread is so nice beacuse now I have someone to share this with. I don't think any of my friends or family would understand my fast committment to God.

Good luck everyone. :D

Started the day off with prayer, juice collards and apple, took my juicer to work. had collards, carrots and apple--toooo sweet I had to dilute with water. I will leave out the carrots. for dinner I will have kales and apple juice. will take the psyllium after dinner. trying to drink 64 oz of water but not going well because of being so busy at work. I have not been hungry yet and I am really surprise.

I was tempted at fat tuesday but did not give in I stayed 100% raw, I did enjoy the smells of the food. I ate the fresh fruit and was thinking about the garnish of kale and romain that was used for the garnish but we left the brunch. I also took my crackers and mushroom and dates to the parades. Good luck every body.

Ok guys..I'm here and starting our fast together. Hey Sacristia..great job so far.....and it's nice to have someone ahead of us to keep us inspired!!
LeeLee...you bring your juicer to work? Is it hard or noisy? I think it's a good idea and if I didn't travel with my job I think I would do too!
I started my morning off with a prayer too. I took 2 days off work to help with resting during my fast. Made some celery, cucumber, bokchoy, and apple juice...turned out yummy.
AND...I bought the book Schmoopie mention...so can't wait til it arrives.

Wow, I am giving tips already! I hope I can encourage anybody that needs it. Most of the time, it is me that needs encouragment, so it is very nice to return the favor to someone else for once. :D

Well, Leeleelocs, I read that you can juice at home and just put your juice in a little themos if you have one. That is what I have been doing. Of course, juice and drinking is the best, but if I carried my juicer to work, I think the attorneys would look at me very funny!

Also you will have a whole feast of smells once you get going. The attorney came in this moring and he was drinking coffee with a McDonald's label on it. I didn't smell that, but I smelt deep fried potatoes and sausage! I told him it smelled so good. He asked me if I smelled sausage on him. I told him that my sense of smell as sky rocketed and I could smell it. Boy was it just delious smelling! Of course, I didn't tell him why my sense of smell is much better now then it was. :o

Kiwilime, I am waiting too for a book on fasting. It is by a female evangelist named Paula White. I was wasn't really watching tv until she came in and started talking about fasting for the Lord. At the time, I had been on my fast for only 24 hours, so I thought I might get this book to help me.

Hello everyone! How is everyone doing on their 2nd day? Mine was very good. I was on water all day (about 54 ozs) with lemon.

I was really activie yesterday so when I got how I am felt very weak. The spurts of energy was a come and go type when I was working my 2nd job last night. My supervisor commented that she couldn't keep up with me and that I need to slow down! It made me feel good that I had this energy. Now if I could just use this energy to clean my house and clean out my car.

I heard that detox soaks in the tub is good for you too. So I had to run my tub water and put epson salts in it. I wanted to do this after 11:00 p.m. but I don't know if I could wait, because I wanted to watch the best of Monty Python. So as I was running my water, I moved my TV as close to my bathroom door so I could catch a glimpse of the show while I was soaking. It was relaxing as well as funny.

I have notices that on my face, my shoulders and back are breaking out in little bumps, which I take as a sign of detoxing. :(

Good luck on everyone's goal. Keep with it, if I can make it this far, (which I didn't think I would) you can to.

:)

I just figured out we had a 2nd page....I was wondering why I could not see my last entry  I found a helpful web page on fasting that explained all the stages of fasting, but it was addressing people who ate a standard diet as well as vegan. http://www.healthy.net/scr/article.asp/ID=1996

last night I got the worse headache, fatigue, sinus congestion and the smell of my family food made me feel sick. I did not expect to get these detox symptoms so early.

I drank juice of clover sprouts/apple/ginger/ diluted with water and also psyallium. I think I panic about the nausea so I also drank a little sesame seed milk to try to slow down the detox. I don't know if that was wrong. I f

I did feel better. Today I had a great breakfast of tomatoes/parsley/celantro/clover sprouts and water. Lunch: spinach/celery/lemon and water.

I believe what the other more experience fasters have said about working being difficult while fasting. That is why I am going to modify my plans. I will not go into a water fast this lent. Unless I am really sure The Lord is really calling me to It. I will pray about It. I had gone on a 3 day water fast about 3 years ago and did not break it correctly and got really ill. So I will be very careful for everybody who expressed concern. Thank-you Shmogue.

I am going on a 5 day break from work so I can get through this detox. :)

Thanks Sacristra for the tips, I am going to stop by the store after work and get my Epsom Salts, that sounds so wonderful maybe that will help with the headaches. I read that fresh fruit juice should be consumed within 15minutes because of the enzymes getting oxygenize and not being of any use to the body?

SacristraThat seems like a lot of water to be drinking and a lot of weigh to loose in just 9 days. are you checking your urine to see if you are not in ketosis to strong. What is the max amount of water that is safe to drink in a day?

Sacristia, sounds like your doing pretty good, and thanks for being ahead :) ..and giving the much needed support.
LeeLee....I went throught the same thing. I was soooo surprised that my detox came so early...especially since I have done short juice fasts with barely any detox. I was SICCCKKKKK all moring til about now. I drank several cups of fresh green juices with apples...but I did not feel good....mainly nausea. I almost thought about eating a banana to slow the detox but chose to sleep it off. I am so glad I took two days of work.....but I will have to go back tomorrow....so I made sure to buy a polycarbonate bottle to store my juice. I hope that will protect my juices throughout the day.
BUT I FEEL MUCH MUCH BETTER AND ACTUALLY HAVE A TON OF ENERGY NOW :) .
will anyone be doing a salt water flush? I have never done one but am thinking of doing it maybe Sunday.

b_light
03-02-2006, 05:52 PM
I have done a saltwater flush in the past and it didn't work well for me. I did it two days in a row but it didn't come through the other end... (it was before eating raw, so I may have just been that backed up  ). And I spit up a little of the salt water each time.

Anyway, I just noticed how awful all of that sounded. I hope that it works well for you (I still believe it can be useful after my bad experience). I do think that drinking lots of water after it (you may have to wait a little while, your tummy will feel like its going to burst, or mine did...) should help it along as well.

Good luck with it!

Day 10: I am doing well except this morning I had a slight case of nausea, but it passed quickly.

LeeLeeLocs, How do I tell if I am into too much Ketois (sorry about the spelling) and if it is in my urine? I haven't gotten any of my 3 fasting books so I am at loss on what to watch more other then take it easy in what I do and make sure I drink enough water for my body. Do you have any idea where I might find some information online? I had probably hit every fast website and article that I could find. Most of them say about the same thing but not too much about Ketois.

As for the water. you are suppose to drink eight 8 oz glasses of water which is 64 ozs. Sometimes I am not even drinking that. Sometimes I am only drinking 24 oz, but then I wake up feeling very dehydrated and try to drink a little bit more if I can.

What I have read that it is not unusual for a person to lose 10 lbs on a water in 10 days. In one of the other threads, someone went on a water fast for 10 days and lost 20 lbs! She then need to jump into a juice fast because her body needed it. I am watching my body very careful and how I am progressing. So far, I feel absolutely wonderful, except I have had a bout of weakness here and there, but it is just that I have to slow down and relax a bit and then my energy arises in me once again. I am making sure that I don't push myself in my way.

I think I will be doing both because I don't know if my body can handle a total water fast. I have been on total water for only 3 days. I really haven't been able to be more then 3 days before I have to take in some juice and tea.

I have to say that I have a hollowness in my stomache region. You know when you are really hungry and you say that my stomache is touching my backbone? Well that is what it feels like, minus the hungry pains.

On the 3/1/06, I walked over 8 miles but not quite 9 miles! I normally only walk about 5 miles in day. Yesterday I walked 6.36 miles.

I checked out those little bumps I have. The once on my face have cleared up a bit, but I have a lot of my back shoulders, which I hope clear up soon. My face is looking clearer and if I might say more radiant and health. I have also noticed that my skin feels really soft to the touch. It might be me, but it just feells like I am touching a baby's skin. No matter where I touch, my face, my arm, hand or leg, it feels the same. It is really different!

I was just looking at my fingers and I think I have lost all the fat on my fingers. They look so long and slender. There are no pudgy pockets which I have always seemed to have. Can you lose weight in your fingers??

you can lose weight in your fingers. When I was on my last fast which i journaled here one thing I noticed was my fingers were getting skinnier, and also i noticed the were dryer probaably because i wasnt' drinking enough fluids.

I also noticed I barely had any hunger for food with other things.....like my hair was shiney and not frizzy! Have you noticed that?

Sacristia

JennJenn, now that I think of it, yes, I have noticed that my hair has gotten more glossy and not so frizzy too. My hair is usually frizzy because I have long curly hair that waves and curls. Most of the time it is very unruly, but it has been very gorgeous looking. At least for me, it has. :D

SacristiaYou check your urine ketones by going to the drug store and buying a bottle of ketostix (I think I spelled that right) any way this is what diabetics use to test their urine. on the bottle it has a scale. I will tell you trace, small, moderate, ect.
I think when you get above moderate you need medical supervision. You can loose muscle mass and calcum from your bones and teeth, organ damage.

you can get pH paper from the health food store to see how much acid is in your urine. I use vaxa brand. When I ate SAD diet my urine was acid, which will make you prone to disease. the raw diet has change my urine to alkiline which promotes health.

Today I did the Salt Water Flush and nothing happened......other details will be in my journal.

I feel great no signs of detox other than the white coat on my tongue. I wore out my juices so husband ran to wal-mart and brought back a juice-man Jr. not the best but was much better than my old braun!!! I am getting much better quality juice. and a recipe book also.

I am going to try and fast until Easter day, but I don't know if I can make it until that time. I still have 42 days, but I have been drinking only water for about 2 days and then drinking veggie juice for 3 and back to water fast. I realized on Friday that I can't go more then 3 days on a water fast. I get too weak. :(

I have been resting as much as possible when I can. Sunday, I laid in bed most of the day just resting (which was a waste of my time, but I enjoyed the rest) except when I went to Church. I was feeling really weak yesterday that I drank 2 1/2 cups of veggie juice that made me feel so full! But I feel some much better and had a bit more energy. :)

This morning I looked at my back because I knew I was developing bumps last week. It was so horrible. My whole upper back is covered in red zit-like bumps, as well as I have developed a rash on the under side of my upper arms! My face has cleared up nicely, but the other parts of my skin are rebeling with detoxing. When I woke up Saturday, I looked in the mirror and saw something shocking! my cheeks had hollowed out a bit and I could see the sharp defination of my high cheek bones. I get them from my Indian heritage which I am very proud of. I have been watch my body carefully, because it I keep losing weight like I have, it might very very dangerous for me. I have decided if I lose too much weight, I will stay on Juice fast and break my fast as soon as my body is able to take solids again. I know God doesn't want me to damage my body.

I just came across a very good book over the week while I was at Walmart. It is by Dr. Don Colbert called Toxic Relief. I was really lucky to come across it when I was just looking to see if I could find any fasting books. It is a really good read and has a lot of good information on how to fast and how not to. :D

I feel full of energy today where yesterday I felt weak. I did get my refridgerator cleaned out without wanting to taste something while I was washing around in there. I just realized how hard it is because we are bombarded with food everywhere. TV commerials, radio commerials, bilboards, magazines and their ads, other people. It is very hard, but I am trying to stay strong.

LeeLeeLocs, Thank you. I will buy some today so I might be able to safely monitor my fast. Thank you for help me in this new spirital and physical journey. :)

Good luck everyone

I noticed my urine overnight is acid in the Am but stays alakiline all day...maybe the detox at night. I am going to research this more.

My family (a 15 year old daughter and a husband) did a mini-intervention at the evening meal to try to get me to eat something. They love me so much---I did explain what my goals are and what I was doing and the time frame---They let me be in peace. I did agree to end my fast in time to eat easter dinner with them (raw for me of course) .

I am reading Paul C. Braggs book The Miracle of Fasting--so far it is a motivitional read with very little how to but maybe that comes at the end of the book. A lot of good history and information on nutritional that would benefit some one who does not have a nutrition back ground. It is also address spiritual factors of fasting.
I took Laci Le Beau Super Dieter's Tea because I felt bloated. Had good results this morning--I am still shock how much formed stool is coming out of me. I took a filtered water enema and got even more formed stool and mucus WOW. I feel so much better ....alert, energy. My pot belly is getting smaller, My abdomal hernia is getting smaller. My Colon is really active to day I can hear it! This tea is really strong so I am going to use it only when I feel bloated, don't want diarrhea!

I am also drinking lots of water to day since Senna is very drying to the body.

I have also discovered rawveganradio.podomatic.com. It is great and has speakers that talk about living raw as well as vegan. I listen on my computer since I don't have a Ipod. chidiet.comhas good free information also that you can print.

So far, everything is doing fine on my end.

I am feeling great and looking great. I have been busy so I have had time to respond to much this week. :D

My mind has been tempting me to eat some food, but of course, I have no desire to have any at all. It is hard at times.

I have been focusing or trying to focus on the reason of my fast and reap from its rewards that the Lord betows to me.

I hope everyone else is doing well with their fasting Lenten goals. :)

Good Morning. I'm doing pretty good too. This is geting easier for me. I'm going to the doctor today to get my electrolytes checked and my blood work done. I want to be monitored during my fast just to be safe. I will report back if anything is odd.
I have noticed much more energy, cleared thinking, smoother hair in the mornings, better complexin and some weight loss.
I'm also noticing that I am not craving juices anymore. I have bee juicing 30 oz plus juices a day. And I read somewhere that I should be drinking less than that. In any case, b/c my body is not craving it as much I will probably drink less on the days I am not working and am considering one day water fasts in between my juice fasts.
I did get the book shmoopie recommended (thank shmoopie)...and will read it sometime today.
I miss having a normal bowel movement! I am thinking of getting a laxative tea but am not sure if that will be ok to take.
My mind is temting me a little...only b/c I am starting to think WHY am I doing this????
Yesterday I notice a heavy metal taste in my mouth all day. So I hope I really am getting some good cleaning from this fast.
I will report back....I can't believe its the 8th day and it is getting alot easier than I thought. AT least for right now...maybe that will change later :p

Also....I didn't give you any info personally on the senna tea. Unless if you are refering to the topic about laxative teas. I just want to make sure that you know that I DO NOT LIKE senna. I don't feel that it is safe. I have taken it in the past and I really did not like how it made me feel. I was hoping there was something else in laxative teas that did not include senna. I continue to have difficult nights but great days, much energy and I keep getting compliments from my co-workers about how great I look and the Glow.

I am going to hang in here a little longer, I have to pray for strength daily. Reading information on freedomyou.com also help me to understand some of the phases of fasting and detox. If I had to do everything over; I would have read several books before I started this fast to understand the process more. Now that I am here might as well try to go for the full benifit.

I am on day 18 and I have never felt better. I have a lot of energy, but doing something very stenuous tires me out very quickly, but other then that I am doing great. :D

I have been drinking lots of water, walking to get a little exericise and trying to keep myself busy then I am not working. I have noticed that I think about food all the time because I miss cooking for myself. I love to cook and I was always cooking something like pot roast, casseroles and baking bread so I am kind of at loss. I am trying to focus on doing other things then walking into my kitchen all the time.

I did pack up all my processed foods that are unopened like a box of cereal and some cookies and all my frozen processed foods in bag to take to work with me tonight. I was trying to find someone to give them to and I found a guy that I work with. He said that he just moved and doesn't have a lot of food so any food would be nice to have. He commented that he knows he is doing it for a good cause. I told him that I am trying to get rid of all my hot pockets, tv dinners and pot pies in my freezer, but I didn't want to throw them away. I am very greatful that I was able to give them to some that needs them more then I do. :o

With all my time, not eating, I am trying to finish unpacking my apartment and maybe start writing poetry again in my spare time.

I can't belive that I have made it this far in my fast. Each days gets easier, except when the smells of glorious food like fried chicken and the like drift my way. I just have to tell myself that "I will eat again and when I do, I will eat right and my body will just love it!"

Good luck with all your goals! :p

LeeLee,
Freedom you also has a great fasting book. Check it out. The book shmoopie recommended really explains how to break the fast correctly. I believe this is so important.
Sacristia...how long are you fasting for?
JenJenn...I checked out your journal...your doing a great job.
I can't believe I have made it 10 days and it is going by very slow but also very easy. I have tons of energy. The enemas and natural calm really have saved me from feeling totally bloated.
I'm also juicing much less and am not hungry.
I don't think I could have made it this far without the fact that I made a promise to do something special for Lent.
Things I have noticed so far....
lost weight
more energy
great sleep
happier
skin looks better
not hungry (books i have read said that when you body is eliminating it won't be hungry b/c it is busy cleaning out.....true hunger will return and i will know it at that time)
It's totally true that everything that I am going thru is what I have read and researched.
I do miss food (b/c i'm just use to eating all the time) and food does smell good but I don't want to miss the benefits that I feel a longer fast will bring me.
Too bad we don't all live closer so we can celebrate with a raw feast after our fasting journey. :)

Hi everyone I have been soooo hungry for 2 days that I broke my fast today with a watered down veg. smoothie and a tablesoon of raw kraut. I know it was the right thing to do for me. I am not disappointed myself because this is the longest I have ever fasted and prayed both. With God help I know now I have control over my eating, urges. I will increase my fiber and raw food slowly over the next 12 days until I am back to a 100% raw diet. From now until the end of lent I will do a Friday 24 hour fast. That is what I did when I was on a SAD diet. I will keep you all in my prayers. That you reach your goals and grow from the experience and are blessed.

I am going to keep on checking here to see how you are all doing on your journey.

LeeLee you did great. Thank you so much for the support and thank you for starting this thread. I was thinking about fasting for Lent but your thread gave me the extra support that I needed.
I have been struggling today...(not hungry) but feeling isolated. Fortunately my loving fiance has been so supportive and hanging out with me. But we had to turn down dinner plans (i told him to go...but he has been sick), and I haven't seen my sis/nephew/brother-in-law, and friends. Mostly b/c I want to avoid socializing with food. And tomorrow after taking my fiance for a CT scan (hopefully everything is ok) we are stopping by his mom's house to let her know the results. LOL...she already said she is preparing food for us. I almost thought of not going...but my fiance told me she misses me.
I don't plan on breaking my fast, especially with solid food tomorrow...but I guess my mind is playing tricks on me now. Like why am I doing this and blah blah blah.
Well this is the longest I have fasted and I will commit to it and update everyone on how this fast is going. Physically I feel great, my body is doing so much healing and detoxing. I can't believe I even got this far.
I'm just feeling socially isolated and even though I have my fiance...it's going to be hard cuz I don't want him to not go to dinner with friends b/c of me BUT It just kinda sucks. Sorry for venting. I will go back to taking it one day at a time vs. thinking about next weekend. I guess the weekends are harder for me than the weekdays.
Hmmm and looks like noone is left fasting but me :( .
Sacristia are you still there.......where are you?????? :)

I am gald that everyone is doing so well with their fasting goals. Today is my 21 day! I can't believe that I have made it this far. :)

I have been doing well. I fasted on water from Wednesday until late Saturday, when I drank some veggie juice. Saturday was the day that I would have broke my water fast for a juice fast, but I was feeling so good that I decided to try for the day if I could. I was on a juice fast Saturday and Sunday.

It was really funny because Sunday, I was urged to eat a teaspoon of mayo. I got the thought when I was standing there staring into my refridgerator, thinking that I was hungry when I was not. Of course, I didn't do it, but I have to laugh about it now because it was really a ridiculous thought. :p

I am planning on fasting until Easter if I can. Only 35 days to go! I really need to stop counting days like that because it does make it seem alot slower for me. :(

I have been doing great and feeling great. I have had lots of energy and been able to focus on what in truly important regarding things. I got a little dizzy Sunday and a bit dizzy this morning, but I thinking it was because I was doing too much and moving too fast for my body to cope with. I cleaned out my computer/book room and emptied 4 boxes of unpacked stuff from my October 2004 move to my new apartment. :o

LeeLeeLocs, you did great with your fast. I still can't believe that I have gone this far with my fast, myself. Probably because I am very stubbon that I have been able to go this far.

Good luck everyone with your goals

Oh I am so happy you gals posted. I was feeling all alone :) .

Hey Jen...kinda going strong. I really want to do this but the darn smell of food is soooo good right now. I actually drempt last night of eating pizza. LOL...
I'm happy fasting b/c my body is really cleaning and this is the farthest I have fasted. BUT I am starting to get kinda weak...second guessing myself. I'll have to go back and reread my goals.
I still plan on juicing...I'm not sure how long but if I can't do it b/c of tempations I will transition into smoothies and soups.
I lost some weight. Mostly the weight I have gained from overeating (10 lbs). I would like to lose another 10lbs and that would be enough for my height and weight.
What about you...how are you doing? I sent you a pm before they stopped that. I gave you some info on books and stuff. Any weight loss? Are you still going to chug away with me? Sure could use the support!!!!

Sacristia....I can't believe how wonderful you are doing. You make fasting look easy as raw pie. Geez.....do you have any family/friends for support?
Are you going to juice/water fast all the way till easter? How many total days will that be?

I'm so happy you gals are still part of this journey with me. Please share any good benefits, detox, or etc...with me.

I really wanted to start of with a juice fast but i didn't want it to turn out in a disaster like last time so right now i'm doing a different type of fast.

It's working in a way for me, i will at some point go to juices
I'm thinking the last week or so
i notice i last for about 9-11 day, so about 10days before i want to pig out, so it will probably be the last week or so
I'm also thinking of doing a master cleanse, maybe a kidney cleanse and i'm getting ready soon to do a gall bladder cleanse.

I've lost about 3.5lbs. since starting I'm almost positive that by the end of lent i will get down to 110 (i was 117.5 today)!

but about a bad thing, my nails they feel so week and gross i miss them being strong i feel like my nails are going to come off my fingers, i've had strong nails always in the past but not anymore???

do any of u guys take vitamins?
r we suppose to when we are raw foodist?

this is an expensive lifestyle but besides that i'm turning into a rawfoodist without a problem except for overeating it seemss, well enough of/from me

How is everyone else doing?

I've done short fasts with disasters before. I know it was b/c I did not read/know enough and ended up binging on food. I haven't fasted in a very long time til now. I will make sure my post fasting is as careful as my fasting.

Jen, I hope u don't mind but i have a recommendation for ya! I checked out ur journal and notice that ur not eating much greens. I personally had tried raw eating several times and was not really succesful. My body was alway craving something.....and I couldn't eat more than one salad a day. Then I discovered GREEN SMOOTHIES. LOL....this is awesome. IT sounds and maybe will look gross at first...but with the right combo of greens and fruit to sweeten it up it tastes sooooooo good! Plus...I swear this is true....my nails were so strong and my hair grew so fast! There is so much info on this...you have to check it out!

And yes its expensive but I buy on sale...of course organics. And Sam's club has organic produce that is reasonably price. Plus now I am getting free lemons and oranges from my fiance's mom's tree.

Try to read alot and get some good books. If you want I would be willing to let you borrow some of my books (I have two on fasting and some others on raw eating). If your into fasting and the spiritual side of it I can send you the one I have.

I'll post in your journal about the green smoothies!

You guy's are doing soooo good. keep up the good work. Jen...my nails got stronger on this little short fast and I did notice the ridges has smoothed out on my finger nails but not on my toe nails. my pot belly is smaller than my boopies now. I did notice I am softer now, less firm. I am going to start excersizing again this week. Really need less sleep now even though I do feel tired today. Good luck. Praying for everyone.

I have been doing well. I am glad that everyone is doing great as well.

Thank you for being amazed that I have gotten through this so far. I don't know where I am getting this strength to stay with my fast. Opps, I know. God! I have been praying alot and seeing alot moving within my life from this time of fasting and prayer. Another thing ithat helps is that I am very stubborn about the things I do. You can say once I have made my mind up to do something, it is very unusual for me to back down from it.

I wanted to just water fast, but my body couldn't take it. So I am alternating from water fast to juice fast.

Unfortunately, I don't have any family and friends giving me support, because I don't think they would understand as well as this is between God and me. I am on day 22 of my fast and I have 34 days to go. If I make it to Easter, I will have fasted for 55 days.

The one concern that I have is the weight that I have been losing. It feels great that I am losing it, but I haven't lost this much in about 2 years. I have calculated that I have been losing about 5 lbs a week. I am now down to 125 lbs. I guess that if went down to my original size 3/4 (about 104 lbs), I can't complain, but I just don't want to lose too much weight that it might make me ill. I am not into be willow thin because it prevents me from having alot of energy and the strength to do a lot of strenous things, like working 2 jobs. When I was younger, I always felt that I could just blow away with a strong wind.

I have noticed that my legs and arms have gotten firmer and less squishy with fat. My middle is slowly whittling down and the fat is become squishier and not so much a hard lump (all the fries and fatting foods from college years) I have noticed that my belly button is become more exposed and not so much hidden in my little mound of fat.

I haven't been exercising very much since I don't want to put too much stress on my body during this time. I have been taking long walks and some times using my glider (which is a knock off of Tony Little's Gazelle) which is low impact and almost like walking.

This is really amazing to tell. I moved in October and now that I have a lot of energy, I was putting some of my books away when I found a fast book by a man with the last name of Shelton. It is called "Fasting can save your life". I couldn't believe it that I had that book and didn't know it. I must have picked it up at a book sale and it got put away and not read. I read most of it last night and it was very good.

I only think that this fast is easier for me is that I have no one. I am not married and I do not have children so I really don't have anyone trying to get me to eat or break my fast. I really wish I had those things in my life, but right now not having them, do believe is helping me stick to my fast.

Everyone keep up the good job.

Sacri- you are doing so goood, I can't even inmagine being as small as you are now let along being a size 3 or 4 how tall are you.

kiwi- Yes I am going to stay raw. I have lost 25 lbs after 2 months of raw eating and I feel Great!!!!!! The natural calm was great--I had a good evacution the next moring without any trouble. I took 1 tsp sunday night and no result. I took 2 tsp. on Monday night with great results on tuesday morning. soft and formed with no straining.

I had alot of energy this morning. I took a 1 mile walk and It was great. I made one mistake--I ate a small amount of nuts and I am paying the price for it. a lot of discomfort in my throat area. I was only going to eat soft fruits this week but I got greedy :(

sac how do you do it? I'm 117 right now and i wouldn't mind getting to that low weight but I just can't imagine it happening, I'm moderating my fast, but I really would like to just purely drink juices

What is your day or days like how much water and juice do u drink

How do u emotinal handle trying times?

How do you feel around spirt, psychiaclly,, and emotions? You and kiwi and you too lee are really staying strong...I wish i could do what you all do, I think i'll try little fasts like 3 days or so, i always break after a week and a half?

Well I'm for everyone who is during their fast and i'm hoping you're all getting out of it what you want

Everyone has been so nice to tell me how well I have been doing. I am really surprised myself. :)

LeeLeeLocs, I have been always very small. I am only 5"1' so my original weight of being 104 lbs (3/4) was my average. There were times when I was like 95 lbs, but I don't want to like that. I don't know if I want to go lower then 110 lbs, but I will just have to see even if I go that low. I might not lose anymore weight, which I would be happy with regardless on what happens. :o

JenJenn, I don't know how I am doing it. I have been praying alot and alot of things have been happening to me during this fasting state that I am in. Mentally, I have become calmer then I have been in years. I have no tension, no stress and my depression that I have had for years is gone. Past stressful situations are now just not stressful at all anymore. My mind is clearer and I am able to think rationally about things like breaking up with my ex, dealing with that loss and the pain in my past. :D

Spirtually, I feel so much closer to God. It was my wish during this fast to feel God closer to me, since the stress of everyday life was blocking my way to Him. I see thing so much differently and I have picked up my old habit (I would only do it when I was content) of sing little ditties to the Lord. They are my form of a pray in a song. I feel strengthen by God about things that I can't control and things that would worry me to almost death. I have noticed (which is is really funny, but great!) that I really can't even put myself down without another positive thought about myself following it. To me this is a miracle in my life. I have a low self esteem and sometimes it is hard be positive about myself at all. Having a closer connection with God has helped me become confident and know that He strives to help me in all my needs. I just was very deaf to His voice. :D

Physically, I am feeling great. I have never felt better. At first, I felt very odd in my lower belly region, but after I had an enema, I feel much better. I get plenty of rest and soak in the tub almost nightly just to relax and hopefully help clear up my skin on my back where it was detoxing. I have made it a habit as of late to massage my muscles. I try to drink about 64 ozs of water a day (which is eight 8 ozs glasses of water, daily requirement) Sometimes, I dont' feel like drinking that much, but I make sure to listen to my body to tell. when I make veggie juice, I fill a 8 oz glass and drink it. I feel like I need more, I make more. Usually at one sitting, I can only drink about 2 glasses before I feel stuffed. When I juice fast, I drink as much as my body tells me that I need. I usually drink it thought out the day if I can. Right now I am trying really hard to perfect the V8 blend and taste, but it is very hard. The only thing that has been bugging me is my back hurts a lot, but I think it is because I am losing weight around my mid section and my upper half is quite large so it putting stress on my back. As well as my back muscles are not as strong as they probably should be. I have lot of energy and have trouble sitting still as times because I feel that I need to be doing something. It is not a nervous thing, but just because I am brusting with energy. When I am on a water fast, I tend to get a bit weak at times, but I just rest and relax for a bit and the energy comes back. So far, I am been able to work both of my jobs without having any stress and much weakness at all. I am really surprised what this fast has done in my life. :)

It sounds like everyone is doing great as well on their fasts. Remember, every person is different so just because I am doing well on mine, doesn't mean that you are doing a less of a job then I am on my fasting. It is just the opposite. I think you all are doing really great and I want you to know, without your encouragement, I don't know if I would be doing this well at all. This board is my only sense of encouragment during this fasting Lenten season. I need all of your guys encouragement as much as I want to give all of you as much encouragement as you give me.

Fast on in the name of the Lord! He wants us to be healthy and clean during our life time! (sorry about the little rant, I couldn't help it. )

Sacristia, you've also been so supportive. Thanks much.

I had a really stressful day yesterday. I got lost for over an hour last night. Stll am not familiar with all the freeways in Los Angelos. Its really time to get a map....I keep procrastinating on that.

I'm still juice fasting....I can't believe I am half way there. I will stop early if my hunger returns or there is some kind of sign that tells me to stop. But right now my body is still cleaning.

I have 2 weird bumps on my fingers. It's like a pimple...and it hurts.
Wondering if it is detox?

I am also so thirsty all the time and I am drinking alot of water.

I do miss eating and yesterday I started looking up raw recipes (mostly soups) for after my fast. I think I better stop that and just focus on the joys of juicing.

Whats going on with the rest of you ladies?????????

Hi everyone, I just received the fasting book I ordered: Juice Fasting & Detoxification by Steve Meyerowitz. It is great easy read with losts of information. Breaks down the fasting process into Phases. ---My mistake in the post-fast Phase is I rush through Phase I I ended it at post fast day 3 instead of going 5 days. I am glas I have this book now for the next time I fast.

Thanks Shmoonpie for the recommendations for this great book.

Its been easy today. My tongue is less coated than previous days. Still drinking lots of veggies juices. And made an orange juice. I got these fantastic oranges at my soon to be mother in laws house. Not only does she have a lemon tree, but also an orange tree. These were the best....even better than the organic ones I get at the market....that I have ever had.

Jen,
My tests showed that I had ketones in my urine sample and my md said to stop fasting that I need nutrition and that I shouldn't lose more weight. He said that I would be hurting my kidneys. But I have been doing alot of research and I think I am safe. In fact my kidneys are working hard to clean me and I can feel that happening.
What happened on your cleanse? Never done that before. Did you get stones out? How are you feeling?

Hi Kiwi-I did give you a suggestion on your other post "post fast-test"--Please read it.

Jenjen-I am off the fast now eating 100% Raw. Are you asking about the Phases when you are trying to break your fast?

Phase 1--watery fruit/veg/sprouts/soup/tea for 5 days
Phase II--6-10 days thicker fruits and vegs
Phase III--11-15 add back normal foods one at a time and slowly
*from Juice Fasting & Detoxification by Steve Meyerowitz, page107-115.

I think you will feel better If you go this slow, like steve suggests---I went fast because I could not control my urge--and my body did not like it--I still feel like some thing is choking me after I eat.

LeeLee...thanks, did not notice u posted on that thread about my ketones.
Good info. No wonder I was so dehydrated. I'm drinking water...but probably not enough. I have been trying to drink more juices....but there was a couple days where I couldn't stand juices. But had to force it down b/c I wanted the nutrients. Today juices taste sooooo good.

BTW...got 2 compliments from customers today. One commented on how beautiful my skin is. I told her that I have been drinking lots of greens and lemons. She was so happy for the tip I gave her.

But I ate alot tonight so tommorow i think i might

I am losing weight , i'm sorta drifting apart from the walking in the desert thing ya know, but i have spent time reading the bible, I feel like there is a huge chance i might turn raw after this
I started to see muscle in my arms today(that was always hidden by fat) i also could see an hourglass tummy, of course now it's all full and stuft after eating but by morning my tummy will go down a little
and my size 8 pants are loose on me

i'm srue there's more just ca 't think of it right now

good evening ladies...
Hmmmm..Sacristia how are you doing? haven't seen you post in a couple days? hope your fasting is going good.

is that the end of lent? lol...i don't know too much about lent...it just felt like a right time for me to fast.

Jenjenn...i feel kinda bad cuz i haven 't even worked on being closer to god. but tomorrow we are going to church...i hope to work on the spirtual part of my fasting more.
Are you feeling better? are you planning on other cleanses? i'm kinda scared to do them...but who knows.

i'm still not hungry. my fiance and his bro are downstairs eating shrimp and pizza...it smells good...but i don't plan on breaking my fast. most of all i don't want to break it wrong.

ok....i have to be honest....today when I went grocery shopping for food for my fiance, i spent so much time looking at all the food (chips, choc, ice cream, etc....). i don't know why i was temting myself, i even momentarily thought about eating. but i walked away. one hour in the darn store...driving myself nuts. why did i do that?????

I went to my Marykay conference today and everyone in my group was soooo amazed at how much I had changed and "glowed" So I spent lunch trying to explain about the Raw and Living food diet. One young lady asked for recipes!

Ordering Lunch was easy I just gave the lady the list of vegs. I wanted extra in my salad and they did not even charge me anything extra.

The changes I have noticed since fasting--My skin is so smooth all over my body. I have more energy, a better attitude, my face glows, I have inner peace even when I am in a high stress enviroment. I am more patient, I have better control of my impulses, less cravings. Seeing other people eating SAD food does not bother me. Less belly fat. Knee pain and back pain is gone--I even went dancing with my husband :) That is all I can thing of right now.

I am still here and on my 28 day of my fast. I am just taking it easier after a horrible Thurday where I got very ill. I think my sugar was too low and I was really nausious all the time. I went home and drank some unsweeted grape juice and drank more water and slept for 4 hours. I also drank some veggie juice as well. The next day I felt so much better.

Other then that I have been doing great. I am kind of relieved that I haven't lost any more weight. Some one mentioned that you could buy ketone strips at Walmart so I went and got some on Saturday. I have been testing myself several times a day since My ketones are very high. I have been trying to bring them down, but they are fluxuation a bit.

I had a friend of mine say that I looked great and what was I doing. I told her nothing special since I am trying not to reveal my fasting to the people around me. I am trying to follow the Scripture regarding that.

"But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face, so that it will not be obvious to men that you are fasting, but only to your Father, who is unseen; and your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. --- Matthew 6:17-18 "

I really want to share this fast with my christian friend, C, but I have choosen to wait until after Easter. I am very anxious about sharing it with him. :o

Has anyone had any of the prayers answered during this fasting time? On my personal journal, I kind of threw in that I would like to meet a Christian man that I might be able to spend my time with. A week later, C, my Christian email buddy from Columbus, said ask how I might feel about meeting for a lunch or dinner. Of course, I am all freaked out because I do like him, but I never expected to really get an answer on it since I have been single for over 2 years now. I should be really excited about it, but I am terrified about taking this step.

I have noticed during my fasting that the whites of eyes are brighter and the little bit of yellow that were in them are gone. My skin is very soft that I am always kind of stroking my hands or arms when I am sitting and watch a bit of tv. It is just like a baby's :)

Yeah, Jenn, my arms are no longer cased in fat either as well as my thighs are become more defined as well.

I am feeling great and I have lots of energy. I actually cleaned out my car yesterday, walked to the mall which is a couple blocks away, walked home, and then after "Cold case" was over, I went for another walk for a hour before I get ready for bed.

Hang in there everyone, 27 more days to go! :D

I have decided to stop fasting. Only b/c I want to take the time to break it correctly. I'm still not hungry and my body is still cleaning BUT for some reason I am scared to lose control when I start eating again.
Previous short fasts for me always lead to a binge. So b/c I feel alot of self-control right now...I want to break it when I am confident that I can do it right. Besides I did not realize how many days it will take to transition back to solids and I want to be eating again by late April :)

Here is my plan. I started with juice/pulp..and prune juice for today. I will do that for a couple days and start adding soft fruits.
I am very happy I made it 20 days...and I plan to eat 100% raw til Easter Sunday. I will still be here to follow this thread....BUT am soooo excited to check out the soup recipes.
I know God understands and I feel this is what is best for me. I started to think about food too much and last night I felt like if I went 10 more days I might just totally pig out on everything after.
I had pulp/juice and my bowels are slowly moving. YEAH!!!!!

I am sooooo happy I did this. I felt that I had the willpower to go longer without binging I would. My body was at the height of cleaning and I do plan on doing short fasts in the future to let my body clean.

LeeLee....thanks for starting this thread. it has been the best/longest fasting experience i have had.
I will share with you all the post fast results and how my metabolism is after a 20 day fast.
Besh wishes to all!!!!!

I don't really want to tell you all the details but basically I wasn't eating or drinking anything raw basically.

But normally I would just give up but now it is different
since it is lent tommorrow is a new day and I am back to fasting
I really want to start juicing but I'm so lazy to start using that juicer again!

ergh I guuess I'll just have to up my motivation.

Good point Sac about not telling others
I always feel bad when I'm telling others I'm doing one, I guess that's why

I'm just really worried too because my nails are sooooo week and worst of all my gums are recedding and I'm not sure if they have stopped or not but I noticed just recently that my gums are disappearing, I'm so scared about that I'm only 26 years old, I'm like wha't s going onn it feels like my bodies saying wha't shappining why are you eating like this give us bakc the bread, flour, rice etc.?

I put a post on here about it but only 1 person responded and she was saying how her gums looked better? I gueess i'm the only one who's gone through this raw, I really want to be raw but with that going on it's hard. I did research and found out it's cause I'm eating alot of fruits which is making me aciding in my mouth and th'at what 's causing it ,also nuts and seeds too ,so basiclly i'd have to only eat veggies and I can't imagine plus i'm sooo broke right now I can hardly afford anything

well I won't depress everyone

I hope everyone else is doing okay

Leelee! You got the book! That's great! Interesting, isn't it? It's just a small thing, but I really like that book for some reason. Sounds like the fast went well...congratulations!

Take care all!

Hello everyone. :D

I hope everyone is doing great. I have been doing fine. I have had lots of energy and I have never felt better in my life, but I am tempted to break my fast. I have been down in the dumps for a couple days and I think it is because I have no comfort food to eat. I hope it is just because I am having a bad day or something. :(

Today is my 29 day and the smell of food is getting so tempting for me. Physically, I am not hungry at all, it is my mind thinking that I really want this food.

I am trying to stick with this because I still have 26 days to go and I have been doing so well with this. :o

I hope everyone is doing well and is happy :)

Jen...I really can feel what you are going through. If you can't fast its ok...eating raw has so many benefits over fasting.

How long have your gums been receding? Can you go see a dentist?
Also, when you eat raw you have to eat more greens too. There was a period when I ate alot of fruits only and I felt totally out of balance.
DON'T get down on yourself. We are all here to help you.
If you want to juice then do it BUT make sure you read up on it. I only say this b/c I have done short juice fasts before without reading and learning enough and I always went on a binge after. It was horrible! I've learned from my past mistakes. You can buy produce on sale, that is what I do. And did you ever try the green smoothies?

Sacristia....I went through what you did....not feeling hungry but missing comfort food. I wanted to respond to your last post. My fasting experience did get some prayers answered. I will be getting a job transfer. I really hated where I was working and I asked God to help me. Another thing that got answered is I don't feel as addicted to food. Even though it has only been 21 days of not craving for foods.....I am so thankful that I haven't binged lately.

I have been breaking my fast with fruits/juices/prunes. I feel great. I am so thankful to God for helping me fast for as long as I did. I plan to eat raw til Lent is over.

JenJenn, Thank you for the encouragement. I really needed it. This fast has given me a sense of peace and calm that I haven't had for years. I am trying to be strong with this, but I just want to give up now. I think I am wondering why in the heck I am doing this. I know it is my mind trying to telling me this, but my heart says stay with the fast. :)

Gosh, 30 day is a long time and since this is the only place I have been able to share my fasting thoughts, keeping it to myself is hard.

I haven't lost any more weight which I think I am a little disappointed about. I think I am losing fat in places but I am still weighing the same. I don't see why I am disappointed because 125 lbs is a good weight for me. I wasn't doing this to lose a lot of weight. Just to lose a little, get my eating habits on track and get closer to God.

I guess I am getting into my tempting phase right now. Easter still seems so far away for me. I am going to try to hang on as long as I can.

Hi everyone,
Glad to see everyone is doing sooooo good.

Jen-Don't be disappointed in your self if you did not fast for the whole 40 days...after all you are not Jesus!!!! God is please with your efforts to put HIM first in the center of your life. I find my spiritially has increased but the temptations has also increased. I have been 100% RAW now for 2 1/2 months and I feel Great, my skin is glowing. Everyone commented on How I was glowing in the group picture I took at the conference.

Sac -you are so wise not to tell everyone you were fasting...I got a lot of negative comments when I shared with others. Even when I say Raw Vegan I get a lot of unnecessary negative comments.

Jen- This is the little I know about gum disease-----When the gums start to receed from the gum line it is due to bacteral under the gum line. eating a lot of fruit because of the sugar can support bacteral growth making your condition worse. To control this conditrion brush your teeth, floss and rinse your mouth with a medicatied mouth wash after every meal and at bed time. Also a daily rinse with 1 part water and 1 part hydrogen peroxide helps. If you have the money your dentist can do a deep cleanse and that helps a lot. If the condition is really bad your MD can give you antibiotics because this type of bacterial can ever grow on your heart valves if it gets out of control. I did this for my deep pockets and they got smaller!!! Also brush your tongue since it has a lot of bacterial on it. I learned all this from the young lady who cleanse my teeth. Hope it helps you it has help me. Also try gutting some greens with your fruit----aka green smoothie--it will make your nails stronger and your hair glossy.

Jen....Leelee is right. We all planned on fasting longer and did the best we could. God is happy for the effort we made. I tried to go for 30 days and made only 19 days...I am not dissapointed in myself, I know God is proud and I believe he is proud of all the effort we all made.

Sacristia...you are doing so great! I will still be hear cheering you on.

Leelee...I think your picture is already glowing with health. Geez...you must be even more BEAUTIFUL!

I have been breaking my fast. BUT....LOL...my cravings have been kicking in BIG TIME the last two days. All the control I had during my fast....was being tested during my post fast. I read about it....I studied it...but it is harder than I imagined. BUT...I have been eating mostly fruits still, green juices, and etc.
However, tonight I was sooooo hungry. I caved and had some sugar coated nuts (since I had no raw nuts at home)...and fortunately no tummy ache.

BTW....I can't believe how much more regular I am. I was soooo afraid that I was going to stay constipated...but after giving my digestive the rest it needed....it is working better than ever.

My fiance keeps telling how I am glowing......it makes me happy!

Well....I am going to try to stay 100% raw til Easter Sunday.
I agree with LeeLee...as my spirtuality has increased, so has my temptaions. I'm wondering if this is all a test of my faith??????????
I hope your all doing well.
Hang in there Jen....I think you should feel very proud of yourself.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you very much for your encouragement that I need so much to continue this fast. My mind is working against my body at this point of time. Temptation has been a little bit lighter today and was lighter yesterday as well. :o

JenJenn, You must keep strong and not beat yourself up because you are human. The fear of losing control is in us all too. I am very afraid what I might do when I break my fast. My mind has really been tempting me to want comfort food. Usually I pray a bit when I have that feeling. God will help you with your fear of losing control as well as confort your heart and tell you that He loves you regardless if you finished your Lenten goal or not. You tried, you humbled yourself to sacrife a part of yourself for your love for God. That is always a sweet aroma to God. Since you have said that I am so strong with my fast, I will pray that the Lord give you any strength I might have in order to help you with your fasting transition. We are here to help each other. :)

I have been trying to drink more water then I have. I know that my body needs more then I have been drinking, so I have been trying to force myself to drink water. :(

I weighted myself this morning to find out that I am 122 lbs now, but I don't know how acturate that is since my scales seems to be a little judgement with me lately.

I still have alot of energy and I have never felt better in my life. I believe that all of us have learned something from our fasting. That is always a good thing. :D

that is ssssooooooo sweet of you.

I return that same kindness to you too as well as to all the others that are fasting and going trough a tough time right now, or/and are finding it hard to fast. I really feel I have come off the path , but I will come around again, I know it I just will give my out of control/power over to god.

JenJenn, It must be very hard. I am having a hard time right now. I only have 20 more days to go until Easter. I had the temptation of putting just something solid in my mouth. I guess a person will have more temptation closer to the end then during the begining. I can only imagine what the temptation for Jesus must have been like.

I miss my comfort food soooooo much. Mashed Potatoes!

JenJenn, I am really worried about my transition from liquid to solid foods. I might seem strong here, but I am afraid that I might be so happy to be off my fast that I will end up binging on food. I am so afraid of losing control after having so much control for the Lenten season. Of course, I have been praying to God to give me strength to not let this food control me during this time. I wish there was something I could do to help you other then pray for you.

20 more days seem so far away. It almost feels like I am waiting for Christmas, but of course, Easter is better!

I had a compliment on how healthy I looked yesterday while I was at work. It was another women so it made me feel good that this fast during this Lenten season has renewed my health, my faith and my love for God.

How is everyone else doing with what ever they are doing now? LeeLeeLocs, KiwiLime?

Hang in there, JenJenn.. Ask God to guide you...

Hi everyone,

April has found me really busy in my business--it has really doubled and kept me business. I see everyone else has bee busy also. I am still in my pray closet. Even though I did not reach my goal of fasting I did learn a few things along the way. It was a very pleasant experience even though it was tough. I wish everyone well as we enter the Easter season.

Hi:) I don't know the answer to this? But I was thinking that you might want to start a new thread asking your question? When i clicked on your post it started me at the begining of this thread- which was seven pages long and actually from a year ago. i was gonna close out at some point, but I was so interested in all the info that I just continued to read....and then at last i saw your question posted today...But i hope that other's see it too. Maybe you can start a new thread and ask your question. With your concern, I just hope that lot's of people get to view/ read it. And that you get the answer that you need.
All the best, Charika:)
