I went in for a physical today, (not something I do very often preferring to avoid doctors at all cost but I need a yearly prescription for an Epi-Kit) and we got into a discussion about my exercise program and lifestyle in general.

It was so funny, she asked me if I was getting 5 or more servings of fruits and/or veggies a day! I laughed outloud! I said I get that much in every meal! I explained to her how I eat and waited for the traditional SAD lecture, but nope. She was very open to what I was saying although she worried about me getting enough calcium and then SHE quickly started talking about all the calcium in dark leafy greens. I told her about green smoothies too!

We actually had a nice visit about the raw vegan diet and I left the office feeling much better about having to go in than when I first got there. She is a young gal and in her profile she lists "alternative health care" as an interest so maybe this is something she might actually try to find out more about.

Just wanted to share a good experience when I figured it would not be! I expected the worst and had a very pleasant surprise!

WOW that awesome Cinnamon...

It's wonderful to know that there are holistic/natural doctors out there who actually "get" it. One look at most doctors and you know that they don't.

My doctor is trying to become a vegan. When I mentioned that I wanted to go raw he told me about some of the women he has a patients he has that are RAW that have the same thing that I have that cured themselves by going RAW so he was all for it. He is struggling with not eating meat he says he can do with out the milk products but is having a hard time being raw.

Ha. I thought this was going to be a bad news story! Great.

My gynecologist has a son who was vegan. She asked me the same thing about calcium, Cinnamon! I sort of expected it, though, since many women in healthcare seem to focus on that with women, in general, raw, vegan, or not. She asked me if I was getting enough greens :D. I also told her about smoothies and she was impressed. I hope she tries them. She also has an "alternative" slant about her; it's one of the reasons I chose her.

Best,

How did you find these incredibly open minded doctors? I would really like one right about now. Thanks

I am curious if you would like to share what you are curing?

I have had cervix cancer (when I was 20-21, I am now 30) and I am so scared that I will either get it again or possibly get some other kind of cancer. This is why I am doing the raw diet.

If you are going through something similar, let me know.

Hi Jennifer I am Jennifer too :D
I am sorry to hear about your cancer but glad to hear you are doing well now. I have a HOST of problems and I am only 37. I have
Endometrosis
Dymenorrhea
Chroic pelvic pain
Rheumoatoid Arthritis
and one I have no ideal how to spell but it's the sleeping disorder where you just fall asleep I have a mild case of it.

Anyway I have been talking medication everyday every 4 hours and every 12 hrs for pain 2 different types of pain killer and all it really has done was dull the pain a bit. In January I cut out all processed foods and started with just a raw breakfast and properly combinding any cooked meals I ate just by doing these things I was able to get off my medication and just take advil when I was at work but nothing when I was at home. Now I am doing all snacks, breakfast and lunch raw and 1 cooked meal.

Hi Jennifer, I had to respond to your post about having cervical cancer. That is also another reason I go into the doctor every year or so because I am a DES baby (my mom took DES in the 1950's to prevent having a miscarriage with me) so I am at a higher risk than most to get cervical cancer. Like you I am hoping the raw food diet and healthy lifestyle in general will keep me from things like this. I had a brain tumor almost 20 years ago so again this is motivation to be raw too as you had cervical cancer 10 years ago, sounds like we are both on the right path!

And the calcium issue, she did first of all ask me if I was taking calcium supplements and I said "no" without any hesitation. Then she started to talk about greens so I was glad she was informed in this way. I do think part of the success along with her open mind was I was very confident in talking to her about this versus usually trying to avoid the topic with most people. Guess I have grown into this lifestyle more than I'd thought!

My mom also took DES in the 60's when I was born. I have the same concern - I have only had to endure skin cancer thus far, but just about all of my older relatives have died from some kind of cancer. It is a major concern of mine too. I have 4 very young children and want to be around for them when they are older. That is my incentive. It's all I need.

I also had a wonderful experience with my doctor last year when I first started to go raw. He was SO interested in it. Asked lots of questions and even wanted to do some blood work to watch my levels to see where they went. One funny note: I had to spell V_E_G_A_N for him!

Brenda Cobb cured her cervical and breat cancers with raw foods. Her book Living Foods Lifestyle explains what exactly she did- she ate just certain types of foods for the first half year(energy soup, Rejuvelac, sourkraut, wheatgrass, etc), no sweet fruit, daily enemas. If it is important to you, get her book. I am going to give my copy to a friend with cancer.

My sister found out she had breast cancer the last of sept. 05, she went on the raw lifestyle on Oct 1st. 3 weeks later she quit taking any pain meds for her Rheumoatoid Arthritis and her cancer marker came back normal which means there was no free radical cancer trying to get other places. She just had another cat scan and there is no cancer in othere places in her body her cancer in her breast is gettin smaller. She also does Rejuvelac, wheatgrass and dinks 8 glasses of carrot juice aday.

I was at my doctor's this week; I showed him my FitDay printouts showing average intake of vits and minerals for the past month. I pointed out that the calcium looks low; he said if your calcium intake is only from plants, it doesn't need to be 1200 mg per day; lower is fine, because it's being used by the body. So my average of about 950 was cool.

He said, however, if I was taking supplements for calcium, it would have to be higher.

Interesting, no?
