View Full Version : How do I get MY protein?

I know you don't need animal protein at all. I know you can get plenty from nuts, seeds, and sprouted grains. thing is, I'm allergic to all of those and tend to crave protein. I can't eat THAT much spinach haha. Any suggestions? I'm never satisfied and I'm getting bored with the little food I can have.

EVERY natural food you eat has protein in it. Let me re-iterate ~ EVERY natural food you eat has protein in it including fruit. IF one is eating raw fruits and vegetables there is NO WAY one can be protein-deficient. PLUS, my guess is, you are not craving protein. You may possibly be craving certain foods you are use to eating yet, protein? Uh uh.
Here's suggestion ~ drink more green smoothies.... 3-5 a day. Add bananas, avocadoes, broccoli, and LOTS of greens. Build your immune system. Go 100% raw. I'll make a bet w/in 3 months you will find you can eat many of the things you are currently sensitive to.
As an aside ~ what I find interesting is, on a raw (or even just vegetarian) program there are so MANY more selections of food to eat than folk eat as meat eaters and I never hear them (meat-eaters) saying they are "bored". Suggestion: expand the way you use the foods you do eat. Be creative! There are LOTS of hints and suggestions on this board for doing that.
....and most of all .... play with your food and have fun. :)

Drink green smoothies and read the section on Protein in the "Need to know more about raw?" forum here on the board....OH...and (*points up to Revvell*) what she said!
DREAMRAWALWZ--
Just wanted to let you know I can empathize with you because I have similar allergies and sensitivies --even after soaking seeds and I cannot handle a spice at all besides cilantro and parsley.
I would also like to agree with what was stated and if you ever need some moral support you can PM me--I am here for you.
I also find that juicing has been a big help to me and I really enjoy the taste of a big glass of collards, kale, green apple, parsley, lime, and celelry. I call it Jen's Jamba Juice:)

drink more green smoothies.... 3-5 a day
Hi Revvell, when you mentioned to drink more green smoothies, 3-5x a day, what would the quantity be like for a serving of green smoothies. I just would like to know.
Thank you for your time.

Aisah,
Well, I use the Vita-Mix which holds 8 cups. This morning I put 2 large handfuls of greens into it, about 5 slices of mango, 2 C. of oj, and about a handful of broccolli and blended. That made enough for 2 servings since "he" was home. If he'd not been home that would have been enough for me alone. That was about 7:30 a.m. It's now 9:30 (or so) and I'm going for another right now. Already have the o.j. Going to add some strawberries and a handful of spring greens/baby spinach. Hmmm. Maybe some grapes as well.
You're quite welcome.
warm regards,
Revvell

When I had several green smoothies or green juices a day my cravings disappeared! WHat liberation! I find if I try to have a couple days and drink more fruit or eat less greens I get cravings again. I know a few others on this site have said the same.

I know that when I dropped dairy my 'alergy' to spinach disappeared. I've always been able to eat more raw spinach than cooked, should have made me notice something then, but once that diary was gone.. No spinach problems anymore! You should give it a try.

I found this page, when I was looking for more protein myself because of my fitness trainer's limited knowledge on raw foods. It may help you:

You don't need either to make a green smoothie. Use apples, frozen strawberries (or other berries) mango, pears, whatever...doesn't have to be bananas (or avocado). So no excuses mah dear! :D

You can still do green smoothies w/out the bananas and avocadoes. It's the greens which are important. After making a green drink yesterday, I remember my mother use to make them when I was a kid. Just take whatever you'd put in to make juice, add some fruit for sweetening, and toss it all in a blender.
