Ok, I have had a cold now that I am not shaking for about a week. I am eating raw and well... But I had a thought today (perhaps God and my body are speaking to me??) that I should go on a week-long juice fast and that that would probably take care of things.

Has anyone else tried doing this to get rid of a cold?

newyearspromise,

I also had the same thing happen. I started detoxing and got kind of sick and shortly afterwards, I felt kind of icky and felt the need to get some icky stuff out of my system. I felt like I wanted to fast. I also wanted to excercise. I did go walking around the lake here in Minneapolis and felt much much better. I felt like it got some toxins out of my body.

Yes!

I am feeling like I want to purge all of the bad stuff from my ebtire system.

Well, I am going to do this starting tomorrow, then. I will do wheatgrass, oranges, apples, lemons, and carrots. I feel specifically drawn to those to juice, so I am wondering if my body is giving me some wisdom.

I will let you know how it goes!

i thought typically thought when you had a cold, you dont' eat. I was raised to not eat when i was sick.

it's always best when you're fighting a cold or illness of the like, to refrain form eating esp when it's viral. call it fasting or whatever but the body needs to focus on fighting it vs digesting foods.

misslinda,

When I am sick, I also do not eat. It just feels good not to eat. Maybe it is so your body can spend time fixing stuff instead of digesting stuff.

Yes! I was really, oddly ill with a relentless cough for nearly two weeks. My immune system is generally very strong, but I had been travelling lots, and...

I tried all sorts of homeopathic and natural remedies, but no dice. Finally, I ate only fresh fruits and veggies, but very, very sparingly, and a bit of juice. I also took colloidal silver to help the body rid itself of the bronchial infection. Within three days, it had cleared. I'm convinced that the less I eat, and the simpler the foods, the more my body is liberated to heal itself.

Have you eaten any raw garlic? Bigtime antiviral. I got a bad cold, serious runny nose, ate 3 cloves of raw garlic and it was gone the next morning!!

I'll try the garlic...

I hesitate to not eat anything...I have had this cold for over a week now, and think I would be getting pretty weak at this point. I do agree that minimum calories and minimal digestion is probably key.

My husband thought I was crazy to suggest just juices right now. He was like, "viruses feed on sugars. you need meat protein!!! eat some steak!!!"

Crazy carnivore. :D

I told him that I don't think it's the virus at this point, anyway. I am betting that I have beat the virus but am still suffering from the after-effects on my system. I have a lot of mucus and sinus pressure. My theory is that if I only juice for the next week or so I can clear it all out.

I started out this morning with a lemon/orange/carrot blend. Tasted good. I love the tartness of the lemon. I am not a big sweet tooth, and prefer bitter and sour tastes, except that I do love chocolate... But no chocolate juices...I wish there were such a thing... :p

Actually, there is no such thing as a "cold". Take a moment and really examine the word ~ cold. Cold is a temperature. For some reason, many have been programmed to think of detox as something one "catches". It's not.

As far as viruses "feeding"on sugars, that is also incorrect. Bacteria and viruses feed on toxins. Many of our bodies are toxic waste dumps. Get rid of the toxins, the offenders have nothing to feed on. Personally, I am thankful that my body, in it's inate wisdom, works so wonderfully to eliminate toxins and the critters that feed on them.

fyi ~ fruit is cleansing; veggies are health-building which is why "some" people actually recommend using citrus during a period of detox.

Well, all I have to say is that today I feel great, still have symptoms, but lots of energy, too, and while it might be coincidental, I would like to believe that the citrus is doing its job. :)

First, I'm sorry that you are not feeling well. I hope that you feel better quickly.

Secondly, I find it interesting that whenever I attempt to start a fast, I become ill. I have allergy attacks, colds, or coughs that I just can't shake.

This time, I decided to commit myself to this fast, come hell or high water.
Wouldn't you know I got sick with the flu and it's the worst I've ever had it.

Now, I look at it like this, sometimes it's not God trying to talk to you, but the enemy trying to distract you, make you quit. I have a particularly difficult time during the evenings. That's when I really stop and pray.
