I started raw 7 weeks ago. The first day I started, I began using NOW brand raw virgin unrefined coconut oil. I lovvvved it from the get go. I had sooooo much energy that I did not need to sleep till 3-4 in the morning. I had no cravings for anything. I felt happier and euphoric. A couple of times I forgot to take it and had cravings for SAD and I snitched a couple of naughties becuase the cravings were so strong. I also was not as energetic or as happy when I forgot my NOW brand coconut oil. I bought Tropical Traditions brand coconut oil and tried it and did not get the same results as with NOW brand. I noticed, less energy, no euphoria or happiness, and I had SAD cravings. Today I went back to NOW brand and here I am wide awake with tons of energy, happy as a clam, euphoric and no cravings.
Does anyone else notice a difference between brands like this? I was so desperate for my NOW brand that I made a special trip to get it from the NHF store. It makes a huge difference in my happiness, well-being, cravings and energy

I'm intending to invest in Alissa's coconut oil........
In the past, I havce used Tropical Traditions and have had great results.
However, I emailed the product info dept for the NOW brand you use out of curiousity and they said the extraction process includes heat 70-80 degrees celsius.WHICH converts to our farenheit 158 degrees. Althought the oil is not directly put in heat--if that makes sense. I emailed them one more time to be sure. I dont' think I will be using this one. I'll send another post as soon as I hear from them again.

I basically order everything I can from Alissa first...as I trust her research on her products. :)
I ordered coconut oil from another source & it was so waxxy tasting. I'm going to use on my skin....anyone ever use coconut oil on face...just curious :)

I'm curious about this too. I have tried so many brands of EVCO (Coco De Creme, Tropical Traditions, Spectrum, etc) and all of them have a strange after taste and smell to me. I think it's just my problem as the rest of my family hasn't noticed it with the exception of my sister in law who has breast cancer and is currently going through chemo.
So I guess my question is more about why my body is showing some aversion to coconut oil. Any ideas or has anyone has this happen?
Thanks for any ideas!

leelee,
I don't have an aversion to them, one just way better for me than the other. I wish you luck. :p

I agree with you Lanasq, I'm slowly adding to my collection. Considering her lifestyle, it would make sense. :)

Karen i just confirmed with the brand NOW---the meat of the coconut which the oil comes from, is exposed to 158 degrees. I received their second email momentarily.
Lanasq, have you ever tried other brands?

misslinda,
I have only tried tropical traditions but it did not give me the noticable benefits like the amount of energy, the loss of cravings and as much of the happiness as with the NOW brand. So I am nervous about trying other brands afraid I won't feel as good.
My raw vegan doctor says that coconut oil is more able to hold its chemical structure than most oils at high heats. He uses tropical traditions. I will ask him about the 158 degrees to see if that affects the oil negatively.
Thank you,
Karen :)

The other brand I tried is...Let me get it...OK back now...SKAL International...Says RAw..No chemical/high temps. etc...It came from Glasers in Miami...I really like them...but I am going to use as a body lotion.
It had a really bad/waxxy taste to me.

Karenisraw...I hope you didn't misunderstand me...I like Alissa's for food & I am using Glaser's for body lotion. Just wanted to make sure..... :)

PS.. I order a lot of other things from Glaser's, olives, nuts, dried fruits, etc....

Hi Lana,
I've used coconut oil on my face and body. It gave me pimples on my face but my body loved it! It's also a great oil treatment for the hair....

Thanks Lara, I'll have to try it. I haven't done the face thing-as I was afraid it may be too much oil.
