made this the other day wow it was good :) the frosting was ace. Just a question how long can this be kept in the fridge or is it something that is best being eaten straight away?
also has anyone substituted the lemon for lime? if so was it ok???? just dont have any lemon left!
thanks

I've never used lime, but I've used orange juice instead of lemon before and it was wonderful! I'd say the lime should work out fine.
As for how long you can refrigerate, I've never had it that long...but you can also freeze it. Maybe refrigerate it to make it firmer and easier to slice and then cut it up into bite-sized pieces, put in a ziploc bag (maybe double bag it) and freeze. Then, when you want/need a nice, rich little treat, grab a piece! :D

People will think I'm mad but, My DNT lasts A LONG TIME in the fridge, say two weeks or more. I make mine and form it into the bottom of a rubbermade container with a tight fitting lid. So the only bit getting air is the top!

Uncovered (well the syran wrap) mine has lasted about 4 or 5 days. Usually, it doesn't last that long because by then it's all gone! :D
I'll have to try mine with orange juice next time.
I also usually use almonds instead of walnuts. Tastes great.

I've made this once, it lasted 8 days in the fridge, cause then it was gone. It's so rich, I can only eat a little at a time, but it sure hits the spot!

I make this a lot and always freeze a few pieces for a quick meal. I put the pieces in freezer zip-lock bags and they are fine for weeks or a month or more I am sure. They don't last that long! I always have some frozen berries so I can thaw out some of them to put on top too, yum!
I will have to try orange juice instead of lemon for the "frosting" the next time I make it, that would be delicious.
Speaking of which I made a DNT this morning, sounds like it should be my dinner tonight!

I've used fresh lime juice in the past and you can hardly tell the difference from lemon juice. :p SLURP!!

I made my first one today!
This recipe is so excellent!
Had someone have told me years ago I would be eating a torte almost entirely made of raisins (not overkeen) and of dates (I like them, but would never have thought to make a proper dessert from them!) that would satisfy my completely sweet tooth I would think they were mad!
I can't wait to start trying some of the Alissa's other recipes.
A zillion thumbs-up for Alissa. This is the bees knees :)
