i just ordered some enzymes from alissa's store and am now wondering, is there any benefit to taking them during a fast? i'm not sure if they would be beneficial, totally neutral, or if they would inhibit the fast due to the capsules being digested.

any thoughts?

Great question!

My take on fasting from research says no nutritional supplements while fasting. Besides, the capsules are made of cellulose I believe or some kind o substance that the body would consider as "digestible" so again, would defeat the purpose of abstaining from food )fasting.

I also understand that during a fast, the body redirects it's enzymes toward healing.

David Wolfe speaks about how powerful it can be to take digestive enzymes while fasting. They support the pancreas, and help to digest all the undigested food we have floating around in our bloodstream and can support healing and detoxification. The key is not to take too many though or they can cause a stomach ache.

Pardon my jumping in here. It has been along time since I was on this board.

Also David Wolfe had an audio recording with Annie Padden Jubb and she was discussing her way of fasting from her book.. Very informative to me since I have been considering a fast recently. She also states the same thing to have the enzymes.. and if you do not want to have the capsules digesting.. break the capsules apart and just down the powder of enzymes..

Her fast is similar to the Master Cleanse only no maple syrup.. Just olive oil and lemon juice along with the enzymes. I always thought it odd we are trying to get rid of fats or be very low of fats and she wants one to down 4-10 oz of olive oil...but her reasoning makes sense... added note: I need to correct myself here... Annie Jubb's is for a Liver/Gall Bladder Cleanse.. not a fast... but I would think the enzymes would be of great benefit either way..to eat away anything that a fast or flush/cleanse does not get rid of.

I am still unsure which type of fast to go on for me.. How does one know? My Doctor has told me I have a fatty liver so I know I need some major cleaning..
Can anyone guide me here?? (Ok I will shut my my till my education is more..sorry)

I've done a lot of fasting, from short to 40 days or more, and there are many ways. Some purists will say water only, some allow teas or juices. I have sometimes recently used enzymes when fasting, they are so good at breaking down deposits and sludge and, I think, can make a fast easier. I do not swallow the capsule, but mix in a little water and then drink more water. Also, warming the water is good because it is soothing and warmer temperatures activate enzymes.
