Sun Dried Tomatos in Marinara Sauce

I have a question about this recipe. The recipe calls for 12 sun dried tomatos. Now this may be a stupid question, but are we talking 12 whole tomatos or 12 pieces of sun dried tomatos? I have 4 small bags of slice of sun dried and I hope it just is calling for pieces and not whole ones.

Any help would be appreciative. :)

I would add a little at a time. The first time I made it the sun dried tomatoes were too strong for my taste.
